Knoxville Raceway

WoO

47 410s

57 360s

410s

Donny Schatz (9th car out to time) set quick time at a blistering 14.592 seconds. He was followed by Danny Lasoski (16th car out), Jason Sides (1st), Jac Haudenschild (31st), Terry McCarl (23rd), Brian Brown (6th), Joey Saldana (11th), Steve Kinser (35th), Lynton Jeffrey (36th) and Randy Hannagan (37th). Lucas Wolfe and Don Droud Jr. both failed to get times in and underwent engine changes.

Heat one (started): 1. Schatz 15 (4) 2. Jason Meyers 14 (1) 3. Jeffrey 10J (2) 4. Tony Bruce Jr. 18 (6) 5. McCarl 24 (3) / 6. Kerry Madsen 55 (5) 7. Craig Dollansky 19 (8) 8. Mike Moore 69 (10) 9. Austin McCarl 17A (11) 10. Toni Lutar 4x (9) 11. Rager Phillips 9P (7) DNS - Robert Bell 71

Schatz made a great move to get by Jeffrey and Meyers in turns one and two on the first circuit and checked out. The best racing was for the final transfer, which Madsen held for a few laps in the middle of the race. McCarl battled back by and Dollansky made a late bid as well.

Heat two (started): 1. Brown 21 (3) 2. Lasoski 6 (4) 3. Hannagan 1x (2) 4. Kraig Kinser 20 (5) 5. Wayne Johnson 14AJ (6) / 6. Calvin Landis 70 (1) 7. Johnny Herrera 2w (9) 8. Brian Ellenberger 22 (7) 9. Don Droud Jr. 47 (12) 10. Davey Heskin 56 (8) 11. Lou Kennedy Jr. 21K (10) 12. Pete Crall 1PC (11)

When Landis was penalized a row for jumping a start, Brown assumed the pole and led the 8-lapper flag to flag. W. Johnson made a late move by Landis for the final transfer.

Heat three (started): 1. Jason Johnson 41 (1) 2. Dusty Zomer 17G (2) 3. Sides 7s (4) 4. Saldana 9 (3) 5. Sam Hafertepe Jr. 15H (6) / 6. Lucas Wolfe 5w (12) 7. Ryan Anderson 71R (10) 8. Chris Morgan 7K (5) 9. Mark Dobmeier 13 (9) 10. Brad Greer 3B (11) 11. Billy Alley 22A (7) 12. Seth Brahmer 13v (8)

Brahmer and Alley contacted, resulting in Brahmer getting upside down on the frontstretch. J. Johnson led the duration. Alley brought out the only caution when he stopped short of the pit gate on lap six.

Heat four (started): 1. S. Kinser 11 (3) 2. Haudenschild R19 (4) 3. Skip Jackson 2 (2) 4. Brooke Tatnell 21AU (1) 5. Tim Kaeding 83 (10) / 6. Sammy Swindell 10 (7) 7. Bronson Maeschen 1 (5) 8. Josh Schneiderman 49 (11) 9. Scott Winters 23w (9) 10. Bob Weuve 19w (6) DNS - Tony Shilling 2T

Jackson led the first lap before S. Kinser took control. Haudenschild stole second and a trip to the dash from Jackson in the late stages. Kaeding's run from outside row five saved him a trip to the C main.

C main (started): 1. Crall (4) 2. Schneiderman (6) / 3. Wolfe (8) 4. Droud (7) 5. A. McCarl (3) 6. Greer (5) 7. L. Kennedy (1) 8. Anderson (2) DNS - Seth Brahmer, Tony Shilling, Robert Bell

Anderson broke a torsion bar on the right rear and retired early. Crall led flag to flag after restarting in the front row. Schneiderman held off Wolfe for the final transfer.

Dash (started): 1. Brown (1) 2. Lasoski (2) 3. T. McCarl (3) 4. Haudenschild (6) 5. S. Kinser (9) 6. Zomer (4) 7. Schatz (7) 8. J. Johnson (5) 9. Meyers (8) 10. Sides (10)

Brown led flag to flag in the 6-lapper, registering his first career dash win. S. Kinser was the prime mover, improving his feature starting spot two rows.

B main (started): 1. Dollansky (10) 2. Landis (1) 3. Herrera (13) 4. Maeschen (4) / 5. Morgan (3) 6. Dobmeier (14) 7. Weuve (5) 8. Winters (15) 9. Phillips (6) 10. Ellenberger (7) 11. Lutar (12) 12. Moore (16) 13. Heskin (11) 14. Madsen (2) 15. Schneiderman (17) 16. Alley (8) 17. Swindell (9) DNS - Crall

Madsen led the 12-lapper in the early going before coming to a stop on lap eight. Landis assumed the lead, but Dollansky had charged from row five to second the restart and took the point. Herrera also made a mad charge into a transfer. Swindell exited while smoking on lap two. Alley and Schneiderman also bowed out early.

A main (started): 1. Schatz (7) 2. T. McCarl (3) 3. S. Kinser (5) 4. Brown (1) 5. Haudenschild (4) 6. Lasoski (2) 7. J. Johnson (8) 8. Sides (10) 9. Dollansky (22) 10. Meyers (9) 11. Hannagan (13) 12. Saldana (11) 13. Kaeding (23) 14. Herrera (24) 15. Tatnell (16) 16. Madsen (25, prov.) 17. W. Johnson (20) 18. Hafertepe Jr. (21) 19. Zomer (6) 20. Wolfe (26, prov.) 21. K. Kinser (17) 22. Bruce Jr. (19) 23. Maeschen (18) 24. Jackson (14) 25. Landis (15) 26. Jeffrey (12)

The 25-lapper was a thriller up front. Brown took the early lead and pulled away in clean air. Bruce slowed to a stop on lap six, bringing out the caution. Brown led McCarl, a surging Schatz, Lasoski and S. Kinser back to green flag racing. Brown jumped the cushion a couple of times and on lap 15, McCarl stormed by into the lead. Six laps later, McCarl was stuck behind the lapped machine of Zomer, and Schatz made the winning move. A white flag caution for Bruce set up a duel to the end but Schatz held off McCarl and Brown. S. Kinser passed Brown on the last lap to make the podium. Dollansky was the hard charger, with Honorable Mention to Kaeding and Herrera. Twenty cars were running at the conclusion of the race.

360s

Heat one (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Chad Humston 1m (6*) 2. Jon Corbin 15 (5*) 3. Jay Russell 76 (1) 4. Mark Toews 5T (7*) 5. Danny Heskin 6 (3) 6. Josh Riggins 4+ (4) 7. Jeff Heffner 14J (8) 8. Chad Heimbaugh 04 (10) 9. Dakota Carroll 11c (2) 10. Dan Thornburg 57T (9)

Russell led early, but Humston was charging on the high side and took over on lap four of the 7-lapper. The pass was negated when contact between Carroll and Thornburg, who upended brought a red flag. Thornburg was uninjured. Humston repeated his pass on the restart, and Corbin followed suit into second.

Heat two (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Matt Covington 95 (1*) 2. Ben Wagoner 84 (4*) 3. Matt Sutton 3s (8*) 4. CJ Houseman 80x (9*) 5. Seth Bergman 23 (3) 6. Thomas Kennedy 20K (6) 7. Dustin Selvage 7 (7) 8. Rod Richards 12 (2) 9. Cody Petersen 16P (5) 10. Johnny Anderson 2a (10)

It took awhile to get things started and only four cars finished this event. Anderson flipped after contact with Kennedy when the green fell. He was unhurt. After Sutton was sent to the back for jumping on the next try at a start, the next attempt saw he and Petersen contacting, resulting in the 16P backing into the wall. Selvage dropped out while smoking on lap five, and Bergman and Kennedy also would eventually exit. Sutton came back from the rear to third, while Covington led the distance ahead of Knoxville first-timer Wagoner.

Heat three (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Jon Agan 54 (1*) 2. Nate Mosher 22N (2*) 3. Lee Grosz 4J (3) 4. Brady Bacon 99 (6) 5. Jonathan Cornell 28 (8) 6. Bryan Dobesh 10 (5) 7. Joe Beaver 53 (7) 8. Russ Hall 29 (9) 9. Robby Wolfgang 1a (10) 10. Jordan Goldesberry 65 (4)

Agan led the distance from the pole. There was good racing for fourth between Bacon and Dobesh much of the way. Cornell passed Dobesh on the last corner for fifth, but all would head to the B.

Heat four (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Ryan Roberts 18 (2*) 2. Clint Garner 40 (3*) 3. Jody Rosenboom 27 (1) 4. Matt Moro 2m (5) 5. Jesse Giannetto D1 (9) 6. Randy Martin 14 (8) 7. John Hall 7H (6) 8. Ricky Montgomery 9m (7) 9. Glen Hunt G74 (4)

Roberts led the distance, as he and Garner separated from the pack. This was a stacked heat with last year's Huset's champ, last year's Knoxville driver champ, last year's owner champ, and last year's WOW champ all headed to the B.

Heat five (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Gregg Bakker 11x (1*) 2. Dennis Moore Jr. 20 (3*) 3. Mike Houseman Jr. Y2 (4*) 4. Tyler Thompson 48 (4) 5. RJ Johnson 71 (6) 6. Eric Baldaccini 4x (7) 7. Jason Eckard 2H (5) 8. Josh Padellford 34 (8) 9. Brant O'Banion 47 (9)

Bakker rode the low groove to the win. Houseman Jr. made a power move by RJ Johnson and Thompson with two laps to go to capture third and an A transfer.

Heat six (started, *qualified for feature): 1. Brett Mather 12m (2*) 2. Darren Long 7L (3*) 3. Dustin Morgan 93 (1) 4. Tasker Phillips 7TAZ (4) 5. Tom Lenz 8L (5) 6. Dave Hall 51 (6) 7. Nate Van Haaften 3 (9) 8. Alan Zoutte 33 (8) 9. Chad Meyer 1w (7)

Mather led the duration in his own machine for the first time in several years. Long grabbed a transfer with a last lap pass of Morgan. Lenz and D. Hall finished side by side, leaving it to the transponders. Meyer exited on lap five.

C main (started): 1. Beaver (5) 2. Van Haaften (1) / 3. Selvage (4) 4. Montgomery (8) 5. Eckard (7) 6. R. Hall (6) 7. Meyer (16) 8. Wolfgang (11) 9. Zoutte (10) 10. Padellford (9) 11. O'Banion (13) 12. Hunt (14) 13. Heffner (2) 14. Heimbaugh (3) 15. Carroll (12) 16. Goldesberry (15) DNS - J. Hall, Richards, Petersen, Anderson

Van Haaften led early in the 6-lapper. Beaver passed him on a lap two restart after a caution for Goldesberry. Selvage applied late heat for the last transfer to no avail.

B main (started): 1. Bacon (3) 2. Russell (1) 3. Rosenboom (4) 4. Grosz (2) / 5. Giannetto (5) 6. Morgan (6) 7. Moro (13) 8. Cornell (7) 9. Beaver (21) 10. Phillips (10) 11. Thompson (9) 12. Heskin (12) 13. Lenz (15) 14. Bergman (13) 15. Dobesh (19) 16. D. Hall (18) 17. Van Haaften (20) 18. Riggins (17) 19. Martin (14) 20. RJ Johnson (11) 21. Baldaccini (17) DNS - Kennedy

Russell led early in the 10-lapper. The battle for the final transfer developed between Bacon and Morgan who had battled on USAC tracks the last couple of years and now find themselves in winged machines. Bacon utilized the low side with Morgan up high. After a slow start, Giannetto and Moro came on to apply pressure to no avail. Bacon hit the switch with two to go, clearing Grosz, Rosenboom and finally Russell on the last lap for a thrilling win.

A main (started): 1. Covington (4) 2. Garner (10) 2. Bakker (2) 4. Roberts (6) 5. Agan (3) 6. Humston (8) 7. Mather (5) 8. Moore Jr. (11) 9. Grosz (20) 10. Corbin (7) 11. Bacon (17) 12. Rosenboom (19) 13. Sutton (1) 14. Houseman Jr. (16) 15. Toews (15) 16. Mosher (14) 17. Wagoner (13) 18. CJ Houseman (9) 19. Russell (18) 20. Long (12)

Covington made a bonsai move past Bakker and Sutton to lead lap one, but it was brought back when Mosher stopped in turn one. It mattered not, as Covington repeated the exact same move when the 15-lapper restarted. The only stoppage in the event came on lap three when Long got upside down on the frontstretch after contact with Corbin. He was uninjured. Covington led Sutton, Bakker, Roberts and Humston back to green flag racing, and pulled away. Garner began to assert himself and pick cars off one at a time, while the leader built his margin and entered traffic. The 19 year old held on, despite a late charge by Garner to win his first ever sprint car feature. Garner earned hard charger honors for his efforts.

Yeah where is that guy who was complaining about Knoxville's prices now. For $27 bucks you got 3/4 of an ASCS National Race. An full local field plus WoO and a few travelers 100+ cars and a late pass for the win.

Sounded like a great race, great track prep, great crowd. Now all Knoxville needs to do is schedule about 8 more of those plus Nat's and they will have it made.

Bill W you are excellent on the radio BTW It's a lot harder than people think to fill the dead space between events on a live broadcast. The show sounded professional--- now just take live calls

More weight, more regulation, more similarity in the
cars.... that will ensure plenty of thrills for years
to come. Only the most average talent behind the
wheel will be needed with such awesome equipment on
the track!

Thank you for the great report Bill!

Shouldn't Lee Grosz have been 360 Hard Charger? 20th to 9th

Too bad TMAC couldn't hold off Schatz! That would have made everything perfect! The night was great otherwise!

I don't see how people could ever complain about Knoxville! I am so thankful to have it in my backyard!

Bill, was Darren Long lost or something? Seems like an awfully long way to tow (from western Ohio) for a weekly 360 race!

No, he was already in St. Louis for the ASCS series race that was rained out on Friday. When he tows to the Pacific Northwest a little later this summer, he'll officially be a "long way from home"...

Ah, I see. I didn't realize he was running the ASCS Tour this year. Thanks for the info!

Driving the #16 car of the Dewalls... they don't race at Knoxville much these days. Last I heard Jake isn't running any 360 stuff.
