They already pulled the plug on Husets, with two days to go and a forecast of clearing skies! It is gonna be a bit on the chilly side, but common people.

From the Outlaws web-site

Concord, NCFlooding and Wet Weather Forces Cancellation of World of Outlaws Event at Huset’s Speedway on May 1

Concord, NC-- April 29, 2009—Flooding and persistent wet weather over the course of the spring in the Upper Midwest has left the grounds and track at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D., overly saturated, forcing the cancellation of the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event originally scheduled for Friday, May 1.

The World of Outlaws will race this Saturday, May 2, at famed Knoxville Raceway near Des Moines, Iowa, to help the storied track open its 2009 season. A full night of racing will include a stout field of cars.

Leading the way will be 20-time series champion Steve Kinser, who has nearly 60 wins in his career at Knoxville. The native of Bloomington, Ind., won for the first time in 2009 last weekend at Tri-State Speedway in his home state, taking over the top spot in the championship standings for the first time since 2005. Just behind him is Joey Saldana in his Kasey Kahne Racing machine, with three-time and defending series champion Donny Schatz in third, Jason Meyers fourth and Jason Sides fifth.

The World of Outlaws return to Huset’s Speedway on Friday, July 3, when Minnesota native Craig Dollansky will be in search of his third consecutive World of Outlaws win at the racy high-banked 3/8-mile oval.

what a joke...anyone who lives by husets knows there has been no flooding out there. it was dry enough for test and tune saturday. they laid down new dirt and didn't work the old stuff first. got tore up at test and tune. maybe time to find someone who can prep a track. frustrated sprint fan!!!

If the forecast would be saying 70 and sunny for Friday then this race would still be going on. Instead they're calling for temperatures in the 50's with a low of 35.

The infield is usually the thing that goes under water, but you know what? The Outlaws always pit out back anyways... Boy I really need to hear from someone who went down to the track or someone with some pictures to prove what is really going on with this so called "flooding" after 1/2 inch of rain.

Better call off the season opener in over a week if its so friggin bad!

was out by the track today...yes the infield is wet, but not flooded...i'm sorry, but these guys are blaming mother nature for their mistakes and we the fans who ultimately pay for it all, are the ones getting screwed out of a show!

A one day Outlaw show is a $100,000 gamble. When forecast temps are approaching freezing those 100 rabid fans aren't enough for the promoters to make money. They need the families with kids in tow and a full grandstand to come out in the black. I stood in the infield at a 35 degree race with 30mph winds on Friday night and froze. The stands were practically empty but the promoter still had a good crowd because at that particular track people can sit in their cars in tiered parking that stretches around 3/4 of the track. I was in the infield freezing my tush off at one of the coldest nights of racing I have attended in recent memory. I'm sympathetic to the people who wanted to see a race but in this kind of economy I don't think you're going to see many promoters taking risks with 100 grand. Get used to it because you're going to see that a lot more, especially with a series like the Outlaws where the purse and sanction are so much more than anybody else.

It doesn't make good business sense to provide a $100,000 show for 100 rabid fans in snowmobile suits. wink

Man I have just about had it with the Rubins and the crap they constantly pull with not only WoO shows but also the weekly program. Eventually they are gonna scare any oppourtunity to host any kind of show whether its the WoO or the All Stars. Even if they do have a possible good show on the schedule, the great drivers that people want to see don't want to show up at Husets because of the promoters. I have been going to Husets my entire life and I am absolutely pissed about the decision of Fridays cancellation. Its too bad that a great track and facility is run by a bunch of money hungry asses.

Sounded like someone hitting the nail on the head.

As a fan of the sport - I feel that way a lot.

But at the same time, we should remember that for the promoters - this is a business. And for them that is the way it should be. That promoter should not eat a 100k bullet just because a couple hundred fans are hardcore enough to weather the weather.

Only in a few places can that be pulled off without a loss - Pennsylvania is one of those places. Don;t bitch at the promoters - go bitch at the couple thousand who don't want to pay that dough to sit out in the cold. Ans you won't do that either - because they have every right to choose what conditions they are ok with and not.

Maybe there are a ton of things to dislike about your promoters. This is not one of them. This is not their scheduling fault - it's more a problem with the Outlaws. Even if the track was ok with rescheduling to the next day - the Outlaws may not be - many of their drivers/crew may need to get back really quick. And even if not that - the track should not throw the dice like that. Whatever promoter you had that would - probably would not be around very long. Most that will take those gambles are not. Once they fall a few hundred thousand short over a season or 2 - they prob pitch it in. Any promoter has to PROMOTE an Outlaw show. Or any "special" show. So if you been promoting it for a certain night - and then at the last minute it is going to be the next night or something - then you have to turn around and double up your advertising costs. While still running the same risk with the weather.

The Outlaws just made that press release to avoid saying the truth - and understandably so lol. Which is scheduling one of their races is like playing Russian Roulette....

Opening night @ attica this year. Same weather conditions. Capacity crowd. Regular non-sanctioned show.

Piss poor excuses abound.

Smitty and Power Slave -

both of you are failing to take into account that this is an OUTLAW SHOW - with a hell of a lot higher purse and fee's than OH or Florida.

I would bet that if this was a weekly show - Husets would still be running. The promoter up there aint trying to put on a race to lose just a little so that everyone can have such a great time - he;s trying to make some funkin money.

btw power slave - was that the same race Kasey Kahne was at? hmmmm.............

Hey Stan, I was there too, talk about cold. I was thinking of going to Huset's on Friday but was watching the weather and was thinking about to canceling when I seen Huset's made my mind up for me. Now I can stay home where it's warm.

For whatever reason it was cancelled, it's a bummer. I could have worked it around to make both WoO shows this weekend. Husets would've been a new track for me as well. Maybe next time. I look forward to Knoxville, I enjoy the early in the year shows.

Smitty, thats because your promoters won't pull the plug if the weather outlook isn't ideal. It is currently sunny, breezy and pushing 60 as of right now. Pretty much ultimate drying conditions for the "flooded" areas. More of the same tomorrow with the wind dying down when the sun goes down.

Gotta love pulling the plug before seeing how it plays out. Can't wait to drive by the "flooded" track tomorrow when I get back to town!

The Rubins have pissed a lot of people off due to this, including myself, and if it wasn't for a free pass from work that sponsors the track, I would not attend their "weakly" Sunday shows. With gas down, there are more local people who will be making a trek down to Knoxville for shows instead of spending their money at Huset's.

"Home of the Professionals" - try not to laugh after reading what they call their selves. LMAO

As Staggerman has already said, no it wasn't that race. Don't try playing tag with me since I busted your balls in the I-55 thread, you'll lose.

If it had been a WoO show, the place would have been packed as usual. You see, we have some kick ass promoters at fremont and attica. They actually interact with the drivers and the fans and they are constantly trying to improve the experience for everyone involved. Things aren't always perfect and you can't please everyone all of the time, but those guys are on the ball 24/7.

Couple that with FAST and you have a winning situation.

As much as pepole like to bitch about Huset's speedway and some of the things they do, all in all you can't ask for much more. They put on a consistently good weekly show and once a year they have what they call the "patriot day special" in which all fans get in the stands absolutely free of charge. Where can you go an watch 410 and 360 racing for free? Like I said they do some questionable things including this weeks fiasco but every promoter/owner does, don't they?

Agreed. It's not like Brandon, SD has anything else to do.

More weight, more regulation, more similarity in the
cars.... that will ensure plenty of thrills for years
to come. Only the most average talent behind the
wheel will be needed with such awesome equipment on
the track!

I beg your pardon? Brandon has plenty of intersting things to do, like...umm...well there's a video store.
