On top of this Chris has stated "Bring your best qualifiers to Santa Maria and I will take the top 4 qualifiers, completely invert them and give them 4 laps to fight it out for an additional $200!"
He is also welcoming all out of state cars 2 free pit passes for making the trip over as well as $100 for longest tow.
Don't forget West Coast Sprint Cars welcome all ASCS headed NON GASKET competitors, if you don't have ASCS heads you MUST run the gasket.

Just got off the phone with Richard Harvey and he wants to congratulate Chris on his efforts to get the racers back to the great little track in Santa Maria. Best of luck Chris, from Richard.

I know this is a little off topic, but I am curious as to what the rules are for each series. I have the ASCS heads w/ the gasket, so what are the rules as far as gaskets and mufflers for the Bandits and the WCS? I would love to get rid of those suitcase mufflers!! I had heard one series was going to let us change mufflers, but I can't remember which one. Chris and Pete, feel free to let me know befpre I show up at the track with the wrong ones.

The website: racesantamariaspeedway.com has the rules for the WC 360 Sprinters.
Go to the header, Team Info, then Rules, then 360 Sprints.

Local noise ordinances dictate, not the series. Neighbours near the tracks seem to have more rights than the racers!

I thought that the "Suitcases" were supposed to be 90 db @100 feet????
What is the db requirement for late models and Modifieds???

Good point gramps, I know it says "manditory" but with the rain outs up north, The question i have, is if a watsonville 360 or GSC team(that has a 360) shows up to run, will they really be turned away ?

With the current management I doubt very much that they would be turned away!!
Last year would have been another story.

Its not very likely that the northern guys would come south, If they did and didnt have the right mufflers, Mr. Kearns will be faced with quite a conondrum. Its just my opinion but the rule book is like a bible. if your not going to adhere to it, dont bother printing it. ESPECIALLY at the first race under new management,.. Let a few rules slide right off the bat will only create bigger issues in the future.
I hope it goes well for all concerned.

If ever there was a dumb rule that should be allowed to slide on occasionally its muffler rules. I thought that Santa Maria track was a privately run and owned facility? If it is, its not gonna be under the tight scrutiny of the state fair grounds noise nazis.
Anyone who thinks the mods or latemodels are quiter than the sprint cars needs their hearing checked those things are louder than any current 360 sprint car I have heard and they dont have to run the ridiculous 180 degree sh_tbox muffler.
I say if Chris Kearns allows a norcal or any team for that matter to run with their home track approved muffler he is making a GOOD call for the health of the sport. We need all tracks to have big car counts and Ventura noise rules shouldnt dictate what all other tracks do in regards to sound. By the way the sound should be measured 100ft from the track parking lot entry gate since that is how other events are monitored like concerts for example. Then tracks could run open exhaust like they are supposed to!
Cheers!

I agree with Mr. Kierce...the problem is this rule contradicts it's self...180 mufflers are 90 db..pull out your trusty B R catalogue...the shorties are about 100 db...for the drivers/owners it's the weight..about 16lbs vrs 2lbs for shorties each...let one rule slide ..whats next? sc10 right rear-cock pit adj.shocks ect...the rules seem fair..apply them to all and go racing! As far as late models and modifieds ..thats the promoters problem he'll deal with them as necessary..there just filler to me..I wish Mr. Kearns the best of luck..seem to be doing his best to make SMS a great racetrack again!

I agree with you it should be measured from the parking lot, the noise thats inside a track should only concern the people that are inside the track.

This is one main difference between a fairgrounds (CAL/OSHA) track and a privately held enterprise.

I think that a team that shows up without the correct muffler should be given a one- time deal to run.
show up again with the wrong part and you go home. This bookkeeping effort shouldn't be hard to do and can only create goodwill .Again I question the Late Models and Mods, why no spec muffler for them???
ohhhh wait,Ventura doesn't run Late Models.
