Jason Ingalls wins Mod feature by inches, Doug Ingalls makes winningWinged Mod pass with 2 to go and 19th to 2nd run in the Factory Stocks! Now, full-sized, winged Sprint Cars THIS SATURDAY NIGHT!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This week at Ark-La-Tex:
The Southern Thunder Sprint car series makes it's first of just two 2009 appearances at Ark-La Tex Speedway THIS Saturday night, April 18th. In 2008, full-sized winged outlaw sprint cars were also scheduled for two appearances at the speedway with Marty Stanford of Frisco, Texas earning his first sprint car win in June and Hurricane Ike canceling the September event. Stanford returns to see if he can make it two-in-a-row at Ark-La-Tex! For more, visit http://www.SouthernThunderSprints.com .
On Saturday, April 25th, the Southern Outlaw Wing 600s make their first 2009 appearance in Vivian. 15 showed up at Champion Park two Saturdays ago. That many would make a great show at Ark-La-Tex. Because of their size and weight, they don't hardly touch a brake and are the fastest things on the track when they come to town.
Get ready after that because the following weekend, the SUPR Late Models will be back on May 2nd and what a race that was last year. Trust us when we say, 'you don't want to miss this one!' Champion Park and Boothill will be off on May 2nd so come on out and join in the action. If it's anything close to the 2008 SUPR visit at Ark-La-Tex Speedway, it'll be awesome!
Last week at Ark-La-Tex:
Big night for the Ingalls family!!!
Last Saturday at Ark-La-Tex, the race track conditions were outstanding once again and if you couldn't pass the guys in front of you, they were either 3-wide and had the track blocked or you simply weren't fast enough!
A small field of Modifieds staged a great feature race with Longview's Jason Ingalls winning his second feature in as many nights by just inches over last week's Ark-La-Tex winner Odie Green. After an early battle with Green, it was Timmy Culp checking out on the field until his motor let go with 7 laps remaining. Ingalls -- who won the WoO support feature the night before in Kilgore -- had to start shotgun after going over the hill on the final lap of his heat race. Jason had made up a lot of ground with his Ingalls Racing Performance IRP Chassis though and found himself running third for the restart after Culp's demise with Green leading and young Cade Dillard of Many running an impressive 2nd. Ingalls took second away and then began challenging Green before the second and final caution set up a green-white-checker finish. With Green running the high line and Ingalls the very bottom, Ingalls pulled along side Green down the back stretch on the final lap and dove deep into turn three. Green's momentum line though rallied him back on the outside as the came off turn four and headed for the checkers but Odie's #15 was beat by only the bumper of Jason's #12. Dillard finished 3rd with Justin Sprayberry and Mike Washburn completing the top five.
Doug Ingalls -- the Longview legend himself -- made a power move with 2 to go in the Haggard Enterprises #99 and won the season points opener for the Ark-La-Tex Winged Modifieds in their first of 4 Ark-La-Tex Speedway visits this year. Heat winner, CenLa's Rick Corte got the jump on fellow front row starter David Forbis and led all the way until getting the 2 laps to go sign from Ark-La-Tex flagman Kyle Goodin. Billy Moyer may be 'Mr. Smooth' in the Late Models but no doubt Doug is Mr. Smooth when it comes to Winged Modifieds. In his typical, steady smooth style, Ingalls picked them off one at a time and caught Corte at the 2-to-go. Corte left the door open on the inside going into turn one and Ingalls pounced on the opportunity. The right rear of the #99 banged the left front of the #10C as the pass was made in turn one and Ingalls ran off to the checkers from there. Corte finished second with Thomas Burge, Randy Hernandez and Richard Holt rounding out the top five. Heat winner David Forbis ran second and third for most the event until collecting the front stretch wall on the final lap.
36 Factory Stocks were on hand which necessitated a B main won by last week's A-main winner, Casey Shields. Shields didn't make it out for the A-main so the next four finishers which including 4th place Terry Lipscomb did advance to the A. Heat winner and Mr. Darn-near-won-it-all in 2008, defending track champion Doug Vick, Jr. brought home his first A-main win of 2009 but it was Lipscomb who added some spice to the event as he charged from 19th in the 20-car race to finish second. Ronnie Heldebrandt scored a solid 3rd place finish with Ralph Dempsey getting his best finish to date with a fourth. Vick's teammate Eric Norris was fifth.
Timmy Culp made up for some of his dissapointment in the Modified feature by bringing home the Limited Modified feature win over a field of 19 cars. RJ Stroman and Wesley Stevens continued their good starts in 2009 by finishing 2nd and 3rd while last week's winner Ronald Pilkington scored a fourth. Ricky Burk Jr. debuted a new IRP Limited Modified and finished fifth.
Last year's Cruiser champion, 13-year old Brett Revoir scored a feature win this week while his step-brother and last week's winner Alex Teague finished 3rd. Grady Burnett got the runner-up spot.
Grey, Texas racer Stephen Hogan won the Super Stock feature with Jimmy Byrd and Jim Goad in 2nd and 3rd.
