In an effort to provide more race teams with competitive racing and after fielding many inquiries and doing research with various engine builders, the West Coast Sprinters have elected to provide an option to run the popular ASCS style racing heads, without an ASCS restrictor type intake gasket.
The ASCS 360 sprint car is a conventional car seen at most sprint tracks throughout the U.S. There are a set of rules governing modification allowed to these heads. This means that if you run a 360 sprint car today, you are required to install an intake gasket to interrupt the intake air flow. This interruption is designed to reduce the air flow to reduce speed. The hope is that the intake gasket acts as an "equalizer."
There will now be an option to run ASCS spec heads, without the ASCS gasket. The effect of this change will be to enable a race team that has ASCS heads to run throughout the U. S. without making costly changes in the engine. This change should reduce the over-all cost of 360 racing.
If you currently run open heads, you will be required to continue with the intake gasket. Again, the intent of this change is to allow more racers more places to race.
This change will be in effective as of April 18, 2009 and will be allowed and enforced at all West Coast Sprinter Tracks, Kings Speedway, Santa Maria Speedway and Bakersfield Speedway for any West Coast 360 Sprinter points race.

Chris, this is absolutely the correct thing to do. Your simple and accurate explanation has been misunderstood by people unwilling to accept the original purpose of the EQUALIZER gasket years ago. Now, there will no longer be a restrictor on the restrictor. Thank you for doing the right thing.

This is a proactive step that I think will be very positive for this arena of racing. With this economy this should help in drawing additional entries. Moreover, there are just too many engines out there that can be bought and utilizied by teams. I think the rule maintains competiveness and it makes common sense.
Thank you to all the track owners for your time to evaluate and promote this change.

We are going to revise the West Coast 360 Sprinter schedule to make the 2 VRA Grand Slam races, which are at Bakersfield Speedway on April 25th and Santa Maria Speedway on August 8th, non-point events for the West Coast 360 Sprinter series. All cars racing on those nights must run the VRA right rear tire and the ASCS gasket per slam rules. The Grand Slams were in place before the West Coast 360's were formed, and since the Slams rules are not exactly the same rules as the WC 360'S we feel this is the fairest thing to do for everyone involved. This will not effect the $5,000 that has been put up for the West Coast 360 Sprinters Championship points fund.
We hope that even those that just planned on running for points will attend the Grand Slam races. These are high profile, large purse events.
We are just trying to do the best we can and please as many as we can.
Thank you.

I am very pleased that all of the feed back I have had from the 360 drivers has been very positive. I believe this is a step in the right direction for all involved. I am trying to learn all I can about the sprinters and have had some very expierenced guidance.
Thank you,

Just a fyi but sprint car fans dont often refer to "Sprint Cars" as sprinters. I really think it would be better if that wasnt the moniker of choice for the new series name. It would be like calling a "Super Late Model" a "late model stock car". I am not bashing here, I just have never heard diehard sprint car fans refer to them as "sprinters". I think of track and field when I hear sprinters. I think of sprint car racing when I hear "sprint cars" or "sprints". Just my 2 cents worth, but keep up the great work with the series and the positive rule changes.
Cheers!

Now if we could just get rid of those suitcase mufflers and go back to a real muffler that lets a sprint car sound like a sprint car...
