Final races at Manzanita Speedway starts Thursday night by Windy McDonald
APRIL 6, 2009 --- Manzanita Speedway’s darkest days is in store in three night’s of racing this week and then the oldest, continuously operate sports facility in the state in the state will go dark forever unless something unexpected happens.
All divisions will run their farewell races beginning Thursday night when an open competition Dirt Modified field takes to the famed half mile track while Sport Modifieds, Factory Stocks and Bombers stage their events on the one third mile oval.
Anthony Madrid, ranked third in all time feature race wins, has yet to win this year but could pick up two wins Thursday night. After finishing second in both the Dirt Mods and Factory Stocks last week, he hopes to add both wins to his total of 126 victories at Manzy. He lost out to a driver from North Dakota in the most recent outing and fell victim to a last lap charge by Ricky Thornton, Jr. in the March 29th outing. Madrid had tire problems in the season opener then ran fourth on March 27th. Last Friday night he trailed Ron Poe to the checkered flag.
The Sport Modifieds have raced twice with the defending champion Garrett Funk taking the win in their season opener and Darin Center picked up the win last week.
As usual, the bomber race is expected to again field over 40 cars as they say farewell to their fans and, as usual, one of the Czoka brothers is favored to take the win.
The ladies will also get to wave farewell as they scour up factory stocks for their ten lap feature. Susie Johnson won the only Dirt Doll race this year.
The front gate opens at 6:00 and competitive racing begins at 7:30.
