My sincere apologies for so many numbers lacking names. That was the worst announcing I have ever heard. The heck with complaints about tone, or bad jokes, or rambling. All we heard at the start and end of races - were the numbers. Yep thats right - the same numbers we could see for ourselves. Most of the names I do have - are those who had their name on their wing or on the top of the rollcage. Both nights - all of these drivers put on an awesome show. And I-44 ran it well, and prepped the track very well too. These drivers deserved more than to just have numbers mentioned on here - or just numbers mentioned over the PA. Even the A Class feature was announced as the Restricted - after it started I noticed it couldn't be - because the Restricted class had not run their B Main yet. I went and asked the announcer what class it was - he had no clue. I had to go ask a group of fellas sittin outside turn 4. Sure enough it was not Restricted - it was A Class. Ironically, at the same time I asked the announcer about the prior race - I looked down on his clipboard and sure enough there were lineups...and those lineups didn't have just numbers on them - but NAMES AS WELL. Tonight's announcing was like a deer caught in headlights. And I hate to say it - this guy seemed very nice. But ...... what can I say? It really is inexcusable. If all you can say is the numbers - you are better off not saying anything at all.... or just saying what heat it is and what class. All the drivers out there deserved some recognition. I will just leave it as this - I hope the guy gets "better". or that they sell a program next time ASCS2 is th
The track tonight was dry (last night was tacky most the night) - but it was still great racing. Night 1 was amazing. And Night 2 was a little less so - but was not far behind it. Anyone who saw both nights would understand. Night 2 was still great. But Night 1 may be a show not matched for quite some time this season - at any track.
Here is what I think about the details after noth nights. The show was run efficiently aside from starting and ending so late friday. I think they got more cars than they were prepared for - but they came back saturday and got us out of there over 2 hours earlier - which with the cold front that moved in - was crucial. The facility is great. better than most dirt tracks. Concessions were good and reasonable priced - sort of lol. The classes running all had high turnouts - especially the ASCS2 classes. So not only was it great racing - there was lots of it! The quality of racing I could talk about for the next week non stop - and might. I had planned to go to I-44 friday but then Cowtown or Meeker saturday - I scrapped that idea after the heat races Friday LOL. I can't say enough about the show these drivers put on. or the great racing surface that I-44 management put together. This show was so good that SFS better come out guns blazin next friday to even match it. Like I said - one could not watch the racing this weekend and still think that the bigger track stuff is superior to it. I saw more REAL racing this weekend than at most Lanny Edward's 2 day shows. And to be honest, I feel this way about every micro race I have ever seen. That could be biased because every micro race I have ever seen was a big micro race lol. But I am definitely gonna have to start bugging Cheese and Springer and others to find out where the next bad ass micro race will be - because if it is anything like this weekend - I'm already there!
By the way - at least from a fans perspective - I dont see any problem with I-44 Speedway. As a paying fan - I did not just get my money;s worth - I got 10 times my money's worth. I could have paid double the $8 (hahaha unc) and still felt like it was a steal for what I saw. As a paying fan - not only do I not have any complaints with I-44 Speedway - I think they did an excellent job this weekend.
I-44's version of Winter Nationals (with ASCS2) are tentively scheduled for the same weekend as the SFS Winter Nationals. I truly hope they change it to the weekend before - I hope somehow that is what ends up working best for them lol.
Thanks to I 44 Speedway, ASCS2, and each and every driver that participated this weekend - it all came together near perfect to make it an extremely memorable weekend of absolutely amazing racing. I can't say thanks enough to all involved.
