(Oxnard, Ca 3/31/09) Ventura Racing Association (VRA) 360 Sprints and the Bandit 360 Sprint Car Series are proud to announce the three race Bandit/VRA 2009 Grand Slam Series for 2009. This three race series featuring the stars of Ventura Raceway’s VRA 360 series and the 360 Bandit series racing head to head in all out competition. This series continues the series that started in 2004 and has run successfully for the past four seasons. It came together after many meetings to allow drivers from each of these successful series to showcase their talents to the many fans from the Bakersfield, Santa Maria and Ventura areas. Drivers will be able to enter each event under a common set of rules that will allow these hard charging drivers to compete on an even playing field with a set of common rules and regulations.

The four race series will be run on Saturday April 4th at Ventura Raceway, Bakersfield Speedway on April 25, then move to Santa Maria Speedway on August 8. Each race will feature a purse that will pay $2,000 to win and $200 to start the twenty-two-car feature field.

This series came together at the 2004 RPM Convention in Reno, Nevada, when representatives of these tracks and sanctioning bodies decided it was time to put the best of California’s 360 drivers in competition with each other in a special four race series, featuring the four tracks where these cars have run the past several years. Muffler and tire issues were worked out so that all cars will compete under a common set of rules that will allow the teams to race the series or other events during the year at VRA or Bandit localities when they can without having to make several changes to their cars. Cars must run the VRA legal 180 degree mufflers and the VRA hard right rear tire for all races in 2009.

The possibilities for the upcoming series are very exciting to all competitors, fans and officials who have watched the series over the past four seasons. For many seasons, drivers from the different series have competed with each other on a limited basis. Now there can be the full-bore competition that has been missing. Series champions and competitors from each group can now lay claim to which series has the best cars and stars. What has shown over the past three years is that there are many outstanding teams, drivers and cars in both sanctions. This series will only give them the opportunity for tight, hard fought, 360 Sprint Car competition on three of the West’s most exciting race tracks. For the fans, it will allow them to witness the best in 360-sprint car racing anywhere.

Pits will open this Saturday at Ventura Raceway at 12 Noon. Driver’s meeting will be at three with warm up following and racing at 5:30.

For more information on the upcoming series, contact any of the tracks that will be a part of the series. You can also call Ventura Raceway from 4:00-5:30 each afternoon at 805-985-5433 x115 and ask for Cliff Morgan, series Director of Competition.
