I cant believe they are not rescheduling the spring nationals.....
So now, from what I was told, the only big show left at Enid Speedway Park in 2009 is the "STREET STOCK NATIONALS".
I know this because Lonnie told me there wouldn't be any other BIG SHOWS because the drivers dont support the track. Before anyone takes this out of content, I will be the first to say this was not an indepth conversation, just my question and his answer!!!
Hope it works out that Enid gets back to being the best track in the state...I'm not sure about this but I believe that the "GARFIELD COUNTY FAIR BOARD" is behind alot of the down slide at our track!!! I really don't know the specifics but have heard the FAIR BOARD is continually raising the prices for our promoters. This all started years ago when they took 100% of the concessions away from the promoters and it seems to be still steam rolling.
Im sure if the FAIR BOARD has their way there wont be any racing at ENID SPEEDWAY!!!
I'm not taking sides here, Colville and Longpine both know what its like to be a racer at a track but very few racers truly know what its like to be a promoter. I just taking a guess here, I believe if the fair board would get back with the program and quit using the track to support everything else out there, we would have the BIG SHOWS back and and the payouts would go back to what we were just racing for last year, the car counts would come back once again and everyone would be HAPPY except the FAIR BOARD.

no big shows because of lack of support? maybe thats because there is a lack of anything to get excited about!!! Did I read correctly somewhere on this forum that they might do away with the modified class? wow that would be a death nail in the coffin! This is a fine example on where exactly the sport needs to change - or at least a part of it. Tracks can no longer be run succesfully as a primary income for the promoter. at least in some places.
I'll tell my theory on that another time tho. As far Enid being one of the best tracks in the state? lol - man I dont think they been in the top 5 for a few years. or at least - never heard anything about em on here (with rare exceptions).
Currently I would think the top 5 tracks in the state are 1. State Fair Speedway 2. Lake Country Speedway 3. Creek County Speedway 4.Brill Motor Speedway 5.Tie between Lawton, and then Tri-state and Outlaw -only because I dont know much about those 2 lol Elk City and Ada could be into that mix as well. we can only see how the year goes to truly know.

well I dont want to get off the subject but anyone who would rank STATE FAIR #1 has to be bonkers...its not even a real 3/8 track and outlaw is a very nice track. When was the last time STATE FAIR SPEEDWAY hosted a BIG SHOW?

Jayson you hit it on the head plus the fair board raised there fee by a huge amount. I wish there was a millioner out there and would build a new track around here some were close.

good point - I am definitely "bonkers" lol
There are a lot of folks who frequent other tracks and think those are better. and more power to em' - its good that folks enjoy their closest tracks. I put SFS #1 because I think they have the best weekly show in the state. of course - I am partial to sprint cars and even though the numbers have been slightly down - they still average at least 20 in each class. And I think the mods are good at SFS too. In fact, I think the modifieds on a consistent basis - put on some of the best races at SFS.
As far as big shows. yeah they dont do no 10k to win stuff. But they do bring in ASCS several times a year. Spring Nationals are always good (get to think what could have been this year) - and the mod stuff they did run last year was really good. I know I didnt expect near 50 mods for 1k during the sprint bandit show last year. and correct me if I am wrong - but didnt SFS get more mods for 1k to win than Enid did for 10k to win? If that is indeed correct - I am sure there were a lot of factors, not really trying to say thats a basis of comparison - just one of those ironies.
SFS is just #1 to me.. Ya'll run plenty of em Jaydad and I wouldnt presume it to be your favorite. I wouldnt even make an argument that it should be everyone's favorite. Different people like different things. I like sprints most, so naturally SFS would be my favorite. But if mods were my hands down favorite class - I would probably like other shows above SFS. I do think SFS would be perfect for both a big sprint or mod show. Great facility and central location - and a great track if prepped right like late last year. There's just some key ingredients missing........

I've heard that's already happening a little to the north of me here in El Reno. I think in Concho? you eluding to that Jimmy lol?
fair board - which one? Enid? that just sucks if they did - because they could actually make more money over the long haul by keeping the fee the same and ensuring things go fairly well at the track. Whereas drastically raising it forces a promoter to jack up the prices - in turn pissing everyone off. Thats bad logic.....because yeah they might get more short term profits - but it very well could be at the expense of the long term.

When was the last time SFS hosted a big show? Last October a two day modified/limited modified show.
ASCS are big shows for SFS and they happen no less than three times a year.
Enid is nowhere in the top five as far as tracks are concerned. Would have to be in no such order except for Outlaw.....
1) Outlaw
2) Ada
3) Elk City
4) Ardmore
5) Fort Smith
And I don't know what the big news is about as far as no other specials at Enid other than the Street Stock Nationals. This was told to me by Lonnie back in March as the SSN was the only big show for the track in 2009 and I think I posted that here then.
And I am sure I will get a phone call because people tend not to tell the exactly how I say things but I will say this anyways. Lonnie is good people and one of the nicest people that I have met and dealt with both as far as this website and news and NCRA. One great guy in my opinion and that won't change. I have to wonder, however, if the stipulations and rent hike the Enid Fairboard done during the winter wasn't to try to detour Longpine/Lonnie from bidding on the track or promoting it again. There were no other bidders (that I am aware of) and them doing what they did just seems kind of fishy.
Just my opinion and like you I am intitled too it. Even if what I post gets blown WAY out of proportion.

Well David,
I will say that I agree with you at this point and time but will also say that it was not long ago that I trully believe that ENID was the best track in the state.
I believe that our FAIRBOARD is driving the racetrack in the ground with the back asswards price hikes, maybe they really dont want racing in Enid any longer!!!
I wasnt talking down on SFS, I just know it was a lot more fun for us to come there when the 1/2 mile was still running...I'm sure the racing is still good there, nothing compares to the speed of a real 1/2 mile.
As for Lonnie, I agree with you once again, he is good people and even used to be quite comical. The FAIR BOARD has stuck ENID SPEEDWAY between a rock and a hard place. I dont know if the track will survive or not, I sure hope it does.
I know that Colville and Longpine are not afraid of doing the BIG SHOWS, just look at the last 2 years, it speaks for itself. So Im just using self logic here, NO BIG SHOWS-PAYOUTS DROPPED-PITPASSES RAISED... There is something going on for the promoters to do these things... I wish them the best at making it work but better yet, I WISH THE FAIRBOARD WOULD PULL THEIR HEADS OUT OF ANAL CAVITIES AND STOP ALL OF THIS CRAP!!!!!

that shouldnt get blown out of proportion David. Thats an extremely good opinion. I dont have anything against Enid - things up there just dont look too good. Even if the changes they are making up there are justified - how does this not affect the support of the track? I mean, how much does it truly matter who is to blame - if it still sucks?
I hate that this is "negative press" for a track that needs the opposite. But - and this is to Enid promoters - what do you expect when everyone clearly sees that this year will be a massive step down from last year? higher pit passes, less purse, no specials at all (including NCRA - which ya'll made a HUGE mistake in not scheduling), and to top it all off - slashing purse for your premier class - and maybe even cutting it altogether? I think you will find you should not have changed a thing - just done some more grassroots promoting. whatever it took - anything to get the word to everyone within 50 miles. Maybe even take less profit. Look at the things that will different from last year - is any of it good? how do you expect to get people to come support your track if there is nothing to be excited about?
Look - if many of the things that have been posted the last couple months comes to fruition - if the support of teams and fans really drops off that much......I dont think this track will make it to the Street Stock Nationals. But I'll personally hope for all involved that things go the opposite direction. That maybe more folks than expected show up in both pits and stands ---- and if that happens - they need to schedule SOMETHING. Not good to have just the same ol' same ol' every week throughout the year. Maybe run an OCRS show, maybe SMRS, but especially - get a couple NCRA shows. just promote the heck out of it. I dont know - those dudes bid on it again so obviously they feel they can make it work - and hopefully they can.
BTW - what are we basing these track rankings on? lol - are we basing it on the facility - or the quality of the show? and also - who is promoting Outlaw now?

If Enid was to build that lake around here that they have been talking about for 30 years. I know were I would be at most Saturdays. Untill that 30 year dream of Enids come true I will be at Enid Speedway Park. At least theres not a forum on lake gripping. At least not yet.

Jimmy,
How do we get in touch with the fairboard????
Maybe if they started getting calls and letters everyday from fans, drivers, and everyone else that wants the track back to business as usual, maybe they would think about what they are actually doing....
So I had a thought, if the race track doesnt make money, then what will the fair board do? Have a flea market, do a local rodeo, what???? None of these will bring in even close to what the track does!!!!
EVERYONE SHOULD BE CALLING THE FAIR BOARD DAILY!!!!!!!!!

Im fairly sure that the payouts have all dropped from last year!!!
I was told the top 5 dropped in pay so they could payback better!!! I was also told that the payouts are still comparable or better than other tracks in the state. I guess we will all find out the payout this saturday, then all conclusions can be made!!! The only thing that I have ever said and will still say is "the driver who finishes in last place should at least make the pitpass back" that would be fair!!!

I would like to run enid , but running against 2 or 3 cars would be boring!!!
What happens if the street stocks dont have enough cars and get dropped to emod or pure stock pay, and the modifieds get dropped to street stock pay which could be pure stock pay by the end of the night.
I wouldnt be surprised if the modifieds arent around after the first couple of weeks. This weekend modifieds that could possibly show? Maybe Burt, Herring, Ciampi, Robbins, Chickering, and myself. All I could think of, not enough cars!
