Murphy Looks Strong in Outlaw Outing

Tulare, Ca., (March 20-21, 2009) – Racing is full of unknown's; especially in the rough and tumble world of Sprint Car racing. Murphy, who wasn't going to race at Tulare's Thunderbowl Raceway, had an unbelievable weekend against the traveling World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series this past weekend.

With his desire and passion to race, Peter methodically thrashed throughout Thursday night and Friday morning to ready the Rick Eberhardt owned mount against a host of heavy-hitters.

"I wasn't even going to go. But the closer that the race got, that fire that a driver gets started burning deep inside of me. At that point, I had to make it there. I wasn't going to give up!"

With "lucky" No. 13 plastered on the un-painted wing, and no stickers on the body, the team loaded up the car and headed for the Thunderbowl Raceway.

The car wasn't pretty by any stretch of the imagination. A quick stop by Steve Kinser confirmed that fact as he brought laughs as "The King" made comments about the No.13 on the wing and the un-stickered car.

Pretty doesn't make the car fast, and Murphy proved that point Friday night as he qualified the plain white car in 9th spot. Murphy then went on to win his heat race. He then was met with a roar from the fans as he climbed out of the Maxim after winning the Crane Cams Dash.

"That was a great feeling hearing all of those fans cheering for me. After hearing them, I got really pumped up!"

Murphy, who hasn't raced a winged Sprint Car since June of '08, and who also finished 3rd, last week in a non-wing 360 was ready for the battle that was awaiting him. He would be slated to start on the pole, via his dash win.

At the end of the 30-lapper, Murphy brought he car home 9th. Never one to make excuses Murphy admittedly made mistakes out on the race track that cost him some positions.

"I'll tell you what. You make one mistake with these guys and they'll just punish you. I banged the wall a few times and that allowed cars to get by me. No excuses though, I made some mistakes out on the track. But I'm still happy with what we did."

More of the same the following night. Peter turned a 13.348 which qualified him in the 15th position. However, during Heat 3, the car started popping in-and-out of gear, eventually losing a rear end, consequently putting the car in the trailer.

"It was disappointing, but I changed into my street clothes and watched the rest of the evening. What a weekend though….. I wasn't even going to come to this race. But those fans in the stands got me wanting more; they really made me feel good."

Great to see that he still has the fire in his belly. Good luck to Pete for the rest of the season.
