I see on the 34 Raceway schedule that June 6 is stated to be the "Sprint Invaders non-wing special," and also that there are double features that night.
Am I correct in assuming that they will be running one winged and one wingless feature?
While it is a very creative idea, this seems kind of dangerous. Putting a bunch of guys who most likely have limited wingless experience in a full feature seems like a recipe for disaster.

You would be surprised at the number of Sprint Invaders that have raced non-wing: Ryan Jamison, Jimmy Davies, Matt Rogerson, Matt Harms, just to name a few. I admire Sprint Invaders and 34 Raceway for doing something different. Should be fun, I meet you there and buy you a beer.

I know some (most of whom you listed) have ran without the wings, but that still leaves a lot of drivers that I'm unsure on.
Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to it and it is a very creative idea, but I think driver's safety should be first. Hopefully they'll have a practice night before the race to get some of those guys laps without the wings on an open track.

If they go non-wing I will have one car there, maybe two. Looking forward to it and only wish they had more non-wing racing in the IA area.

This will be an interesting night. Sprint Invaders will run a complete race program. Hot laps, heats, dash, B main, and A main. And then while one of the other classes is running their A main the Invaders that would like to compete in this first ever non-wing feature can get their car ready for non wing action. I applaud Jeff and Amy for trying something new. You are right about the fact that some of these teams have never driven non-wing. But we have some very talented drivers. I bet they will do just fine. Lets face it no one is born experienced. Their has to be a first time some time. When we get closer Bill W. will have a press release explaining more.
Tell me how much money you got and I'll tell you how
fast you can go!

Sprintfan16 it still boild down to a decision either by the car owner or the driver. I to worry about driver safety and the learning curve will be a short one for those that have never raced non wing. I think there will be some guys that pass and I congratulate them for that decision. I think with the right advertising there will be some non-wing cars show up, because there are not many chances to race non wing other than in Illinois and Indiana.
Looking forward to it.

If seeing non-wing racing make a comeback at 34 Raceway is the goal, this is the wrong way to achieve that. Whether it is a non-wing 305/360/410 race, doesn't matter to me anymore. I will be there attempting to win the first non-wing race at 34 in decades, I don't care if it paid "black eyes" for first. For personal reasons, I wish it would be a 305 race. No matter what it is, I feel the format is non conducive to both the racer, and the fan, and will do future non-wing races at 34 Raceway an injustice. Here is why. On the fan side, you are going to the track to see a sprint car race, some might be going because of the advertised "Non-Wing" race. Now you are going to sit through an entire event, hot laps, heats, features, then see "some" (not a full field of cars or grandstands) of the same guys who just ran go out for a draw non-wing feature. To the laymen's eye, they will just appear as slow sprint cars, running prolly 2 sec slower than they just previously did. How is that going to attract fans for the next time? To the racer, if you have just ran all night, sitting in the same cockpit, you are used to how fast you can enter a corner. My first experience without a wing I couldn’t believe how far the car carried into the corner with a lack of side bite. How many guys on the high side are going to get slammed into from others or slam into the concrete not knowing this? Some are going to enter the corner for the first time without a wing way harder than they should. Or, you can go into the night with full expectations of running the non-wing race at the end of the night. Yet, after they complete the full night, you know there will be the guys that say, "Screw it, I drew in the back any way, I'm done." The first time a guy should race a car non-wing should be in hot laps, on a wide tacky track, spread out from other competitors. Not lined up two by two, taking the green on a slick track and heading for the cushion. Somebody is going to get hurt. All said, a non-wing race at 34 Raceway is amazing! It needs to be on it's own card, no winged sprints the same evening, and possibly even have practice the night before. I want nothing more than to be able to run non-wing at 34 Raceway EVERY week, so I will do what I can to levy in favor of that. There’ my two cents worth. Hope I don't offend any of my friends. No matter what, I will be there. I just pray all have fun and nobody gets hurt.

Amen Beef!
That being said, this still should be an interesting show, not sure I can recall many other facilities or sanctions doing this in recent history...anyone correct me if I am wrong please. I know there are a few Invader guys that have ran non-wing over the past few years, but they are for the most part wingers. To me, it will be interesting to see who attempts this scenario as their first time non-winging it.
Invaders that I have personally seen run a non-winged show: Ryan Jamison, Jim Davies, Matt Rogerson, Dave Anderson, Korey Weyent, Matt Harms. Other drivers that this might appeal to that may show up: Chris Urish, Tommy Rockwell, and Bart Andrews just to name a few. Sorry to those I may have forgotten, nothing intentional.
Just out of curiosity, when was the last non-winged show at 34 Raceway, and who won it? Anyone know?

The last one I can find using Kevin Eckert's OpenWheelTimes.com is June 17, 1979.
The race was won by Shane Carson, with Randy Smith taking second, Tim Green third, Sonny Smyser fourth, and Steve Hainline rounding out the top five.

It is a great idea. I believe all the drivers involved will use there heads and drive a safe race. The reallity of it BEEF is that a 305 can win this race.I cant wait to watch .

I was thinking there was one in the Mid-80's???? If there was a true historian of the facility that would know, who would it be? Suggestions with contact number anyone?

Beef your absolutely right. Not to mention with a non-wing car you run different bars, shocks, gears, stagger and front axles. I would bring two cars if it was a complete non-wing show.

MUDFLAP!!!!!?????...............................LOL!!! I look forward to seeing, maybe being a part of it. I think it would be a great time BUT,..I also have a few concerns. I don't want to see anybody get tore up, or hurt, trying to have a good time. The bottem line is, someone has to win and we all want to win!!! I am very much for a non-wing race, I just hope everyone can use their heads, and I think they/we can(my fingers are crossed). Lets have fun. If we can get some practice laps, great,.........if not, lets use our heads. Maybe this will bring something "new" to the area. Just my thoughts.
