For all of you who dont know, this track was sold. I was talking to Donald Goforth who just moved out there and he called me and told me that this historic track had been sold and was closing.

If you click the link it's all there, it happened last Thursday. There are many people, some who are very connected and influential who are looking at this from all angles. It only takes a second to sign.

to be honest - this one topic speaks volumes.

The time to deal with this was before. From all appearances, it looks like the deal is closed. That sure doesnt mean folks should stop trying. But at the same time, the time to go get signatures was BEFORE this happened.

I think this should provoke thought about State Fair Speedway. Everyone knows that SFS isnt the most rock solid track out there. Just like as was threatened a few years ago, it could very easily happen to SFS the same as what is happening to Manzanita.

And I think it is sad. Because if they ever do move to shut down SFS for one thing or another. We will all jump so outraged and saddened and talk about "all the good ol' times" - but what the hell are we doing RIGHT NOW to ensure the future of SFS? Complacency seems to be contagious.

Sorry Kenny not saying anything bout manzy. That horrible not only what has happened, but just how it came out of nowhere too. But okc has been in the same threatening waters. We were lucky Lanny Edwards stepped in (imagine that lol - but it is true) ........but that aint gonna be enough forever. There's a few thousand patrons of SFS. All those should get together - sign petitions - sign whatever. And present to candidates for local office. Trust me, if a politician thinks all he has to do is designate a track a historical whatever you call it - and in return gets a few thousand votes. hell yeah he'd do it. because even those few thousand would get a few more to make probably 4-5 thousand.

Not meaning to get theatrical.........but with a massive united front......its possible to save our tracks.

Has anyone even figured this out with Manzy. The deal is already in place - so these signing books are not much different than the ones you sign at funeral homes. By all rights - get signatures from everyone at the track the next couple weeks - and go to local politicians to do something about it. Tell em they can have those few thousand voting for em or against em. So look for districts where the race may be tight. Seems it would be a better shot at something like that .........then just a few people sharing their sorrows.

get some real action goin'.............we should do it here in OKC too..........

How much would could a wouldchuck chuck if a

If it had been the city, we wouldn't have been surprised, but this!!..The Martins had been making major improvements, lot's of them. Who knew, it was behind closed doors all the way.

There are a lot of people out there, top notched and connected one's, that are looking at and and will be trying every angle.

A few things that hurt the bottom line right now,

The appearance of "sameness" amongst all the classes. A movie full of Sandra Bullock clones isn't going to sell big time, why should anything else?Real racers don't give up in a bad economy as long as they have at least one dime to their name, they always pay at the back gate(which is it seems, the focus these days amongst promoters). But when you focus too much on the back gate, the stands tend to suffer. Back in the old days, closing the tracks like these would have been considered insanity, business wise and political wise.

The economy bottoming out recently leaving some to think it is all over. $10million for an initial investment of $3-$5 mil in this economy seems like a heck of a deal when you do not consider history.

Phoenix is in the southwest, the track is in a bad neighborhood--The recent drug war issues could be spilling over into (and they have) our side of the creek from Mexico. This could be an issue for all southern state tracks in the future.

Yesterday we found that it had been ruled, and admitted as a Historic site, ,http://www.savethetracks.com/1%20-%20Manzanita.pdf Looks like the Martins did it themselves, or somebody did about the time they purchased it in 2007.

Wide world of speed put the petition on their front page http://www.savethetracks.com/1%20-%20Manzanita.pdf

and the list of people in our sport who have signed is growing and some of the comments are touching, for lack of a manly word..LOL...http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/savemanzy/signatures.html

The new owners of Manzy have said they don't want to close the track, but they need a option. The City of Phoenix and the County can help us with that, and so can our friends. What we (I have been asked to speak on behalf of some owners) need you to do is let them know the amount of $$ you bring into our state every year. Trust me, some of the things that you've heard or read about this sale are not true, and we do have a chance at saving Manzanita Speedway for us all.

You at home, same thing. It won't be hard to let them know how much you put into the economy..

Please pass this along to anyone you think could help....Kenny

" Help Save Manzanita Speedway"

Business owners, Racers, Racing fans

The City of Phoenix needs to hear from " YOU " now!!

Meetings and discussions have occurred with City of Phoenix in regard to Manzy as a tax base, "we have their attention"

Send emails to the addresses below expressing the financial impact on your business or businesses that you spend money with when participating or attending the races and how the loss of Manzy will create a devastating financial impact for many. Here are some things to address.

* How will this effect your business or businesses that you spend money with.
* Describe that there are millions of dollars that are pumped into the Phoenix area revenue stream as a result of racing at Manzy.
* Tell how this loss will impact your business including your loss of income/business.
* If it might put you out of business, having to lay off employees. (possibly how many)
* The loss to the city in tax revenues.
* Your reduction in purchases for materials. (for purchases made locally, give some detail)
* How your loss will affect others.(i.e. if you stop purchasing from a local supplier, it becomes their loss too, it will create a down turn.
* How you will buy less gas , oil, tires, ect for your vehicles.
* How stopping at local restaurants going to and after the races will cease.
* Any other negative financial impact you can think of as a result of loosing Manzy.

Paint the picture of the devastating effect of losing the local dirt track and the impact that it will have on the local economy. Inform them of the National exposure that Manzy brings to Phoenix. Remind them that we do not want to let this motor sports venue be lost to another city like Casa Grande or Tucson or to one of the Indian Reservations.

Be short and to the point, be respectful. Long emails often do not get read fully, make your points.

Ask what can you do or how can you help the City help the cause. What can the City do to save Manzy?

Send emails to all of the following (as soon as possible, time is short)

Contact, Mayor Phil Gordon at: [email protected]
Contact, Councilman Michael Nowakowski at: [email protected] (Manzy is in district 7)

And from a county perspective contact the County Supervisor for (where Manzy is) Mary Rose Wilcox at [email protected]
Talk about the loss to the County and the threat of this activity and attractions moving to another County. Manzy needs to remain in Maricopa County. We cannot let it go away to another County and end up on one of the Reservations or just be totally lost forever.

We have a chance to turn this around, it depends highly on your response, please get involved ASAP.

Let's get up on the wheel and " Make This Happen "

We should take note of what they are trying to do here, because we'll need it in a couple years for the Devils Bowl and I am sure the same things going to happen up in OKC in do time.
