HAGEN WINS "SOKOLA SHOOTOUT;" PREPARES FOR TEXAS RACES
The USAC Mopar National Midget Series is preparing for its first race in Wichita Falls, Texas in 40 years and Darren Hagen is eyeing the series point lead after closing to within just eight points of leader Brad Sweet after winning Saturday night's "Sokola Shootout" at Perris, Calif.
The March 13 "Lloyd Ruby Classic" at Red River Speedway in Wichita Falls will be followed by the March 14 "AllState Texas Racefest" at Thunder Hill Raceway in Kyle, Texas, a track where Dave Steele won the last Texas USAC Midget race in 2006.
Hagen, of Riverside, Calif., passed Tracy Hines on the white-flag lap and led to the checkered flag to win Saturday night's 30-lap USAC Mopar National & Western Midget race at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway. Hagen piloted the Liberty Village/McGladrey & Pullen Spike/Esslinger Ford to the win over Hines, Cole Whitt, Sweet and Bryan Clauson.
Clauson led the first 19 laps of Saturday's race, then Hines led the next nine before yielding to Hagen.
The USAC Western Midget Series continues March 21 at the Bakersfield (Calif.,) Speedway.
