by Troy Hennig

CHICO, CA - Another exciting year of racing is scheduled at the Silver Dollar Speedway in 2009. An aggressive 38-race schedule is highlighted by the return of the World of Outlaws to the Mini Gold Cup in March. The 23rd version of this race kicks off the season on March 13 and 14. It had been 17-years since the World of Outlaws were last involved with the Mini Gold Cup. The last official sanctioned Mini Gold Cup for the World of Outlaws was in 1992. The World of Outlaws will return back to the speedway in September for the 56th annual Gold Cup Race of Champions.

The Gold Cup will take place September 10, 11 and 12. The Gold Cup Race of Championships is considered one of the top five sprint car races in the world.

The Friday night Feather Falls Casino point championship series features 20 nights of racing. The first Friday night point race will take place April 3. The season will run throughout the summer months and conclude on August 28. As usual, the 410 sprints, Dirt Modifieds, Wingless Sprints and Street Stocks will be the featured divisions. Joining the racing action on some nights will include the Late Models and Dwarf Cars. The Late Model race is June 19. The Dwarf Cars will race five times this year at Chico.

The traveling King of California Golden State Series 410 sprint cars will visit the speedway four nights this year. The first appearance is on May 9 and coincides with the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial. This race is usually the biggest paying one night race on the circuit. The next time the series is back will be on July 4th . A special night of racing and fireworks are scheduled. The final two nights of racing will take place over one weekend. On July 24 and 25 the King of California will be in town. July 25 will be a special night, as it will mark the second time Chico has hosted the “Tribute to Gary Patterson.”

The Hoosier Racing Tire Civil War Series rolls into town for two nights this year. The 360-cubic inch powered winged sprint cars hit the track on May 24. The race is corresponding with the Silver Dollar Fair. The final night or racing will be on September 9. This race is called the Pacific Sprint Cup and features the top 32 drivers in points.

Other special events throughout the year include the annual Silver Cup.

This race features 360 winged sprints, wingless sprints and dirt modifieds. March 27 and 28 are the scheduled nights of racing for this event.

The 18th Pacific Sprint Fall Nationals will take place in October. This three-night event starts October 1 and ends on October 3. Traditionally, nearly 80 cars attend the three nights of racing.

The 5th Wingless Sprint Nationals will once again close out racing at the speedway. The final two nights take place October 9 and 10.

Play Day for all divisions is scheduled for March 22. It marks the only time of the year teams can get the chance to practice at the famed quarter-mile oval speedway.
