Maybe, the best value of the year!!!

What will a $15 grandstand ticket buy this Saturday night at the annual Texas World Dirt Track Championship held at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track just north of Fort Worth? (at the intersection of I-35W & TX Hwy 114 to be exact) In a word, PLENTY! In fact, it may be the best dirt track action value-for-your-buck that you will see all year!

$15 is the minimum any dirt track charges for a SUPR Late Model show and it usually comes with some regular weekly classes racing for regular purse. Other tracks are charging as much as $17, 18, 20 and even more for such an event. TMS would be a great deal this weekend if it was just SUPR racing on the wide, high speed 4/10 mile oval but not only do you get a full Saturday night Late Model show with heat races (passing points being used), last chance races and feature (It's an extra purse Late Model feature by the way, paying $3500 to win and mostly 500 to start for just a one-night show!) but Limited Modifieds from all over Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana AND Open Wheel Modifieds from all over -- and I mean ALL over -- the United States will also be racing as well.

But it gets even better than that...

Thanks to O'Reilly Auto Parts -- a sponsor of the SUPR Late Model series along with many Texas Motor Speedway events over the years -- you can get $5 off an adult grandstand ticket for Saturday night as well! Just use a search website (or mapquest, yellow pages, GPS service, etc.), leave a little early and visit an O'Reilly Auto Parts store on your way into the DFW area (only stores in the DFW-area are doing this if I understand correctly). Stop in and get your tickets for $10. It'll maybe save you a wait in line on Friday and/or Saturday and it WILL get you $5 off your Saturday adult ticket. Kids tickets are already selling for just $5! (Under age 12).

And those O'Reilly stores are everywhere along the way no matter what direction you are coming in from. Greenville, Terrell, Seagoville, Waxahatchie, Weatherford, Denton and there must be a hundred more stores all around the DFW-area! Stop in and get that case of oil or jug of anti-freeze that you've been meaning to pick up anyway and thank them folks for supporting dirt track racing like they do!!! (As far as I know, no purchase is required but what the heck, buy something you can use anyway!) No matter what region of the country you are from, chances are you have a dirt racing series and/or a dirt track in your area that is sponsored by O'Reilly Auto Parts!

In case you run into any problems getting your tickets at a store, you may want to print out the following:

store #666 (yeah i know)

You can buy the tickets for 10.00 for each day, you can tell your store if they dont know anything about it to look under their TEAMNET screen, go to DEPARTMENTS, look under Marketing and Advertising, then EVENT & Ticket Information, then click on Texas. Then theres the info for the World DIRT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY FT WORTH TEXAS.

if they click on that they will find the directions on how to sell you the ticket. You will get a receipt, and you pick up the tickets at the will call booth.

ENJOY THE RACING!!!

Hope this helps everyone out,

Thanks to Jeff -- a Qwik Race Cars (Jacksonville, Texas) Limited Modified racer -- for posting that on ElbowsUp.com!

Let me tell you something else too...

This is not just any dirt track -- THIS is the Taj Mahal of dirt tracks! Beautiful state-of-the-art facility. Acres of FREE paved parking. Great lighting, plenty of grandstand seating, suites -- it's a mini-superspeedway in the great tradition of SMI race tracks!

Now, that FREE parking is new this year because they've listened to the dirt track fans that have come in years past to the TMS dirt track. They have also worked deals with their concession folks this year to help reduce the costs for families that come to this show. Levy Restaurants has reduced prices across the board in concessions, making nine entrees available for $5 or less. (Sorry, no coolers allowed in grandstands at the dirt track but you can still bring a small one into the NASCAR races there!) This has been an area of a few complaints in the past too but just like they have promised to do this year and are doing for their NASCAR races at the super speedway, Eddie Gossage and the Texas Motor Speedway staff are doing all they can to make this show AND their NASCAR races more affordable in tough economic times. Check out www.texasmotorspeedway.com and see what the various ticket price packages are for the Samsung 500 weekend coming up April 3rd through 5th. You may like what you find!

And travelers, have you seen those gas prices? (Who hasn't, right!) They are STILL DOWN right now. I paid $1.62 for regular at Sam's in Shreveport yesterday. Diesel in the area is as low as $1.99.

Weather? Predicted to be a little cool this weekend at night in the Fort Worth area, not bad during the day but more importantly, DRY! And better temperature-wise than what we had a couple years ago I guarantee! That was a cold, windy race that year but 2009 is looking much better.

This is also the first year for new Dirt Track manager Cameron Branch. Some may know Cameron from his days at J&J Racing in Haynesville, Louisiana or if you're a Late Model person in this region, you've seen him in the pits at SUPR Late Model shows where they sell the Hoosier tires. A lot of the new twists you see for the TWDTC this year I think can be attributed to Cameron. Cameron's crew at the TMS dirt track together with the SUPR personel that Greg Holmes is bringing in is going to make for an even more fast-moving, well run show this year.

Cameron's seen every dirt track in this area. He knows what the drivers want in a track and what the fans want to see at one. Getting any dirt track in shape for just one race a year is a tall order for anybody but I believe Cameron's going to give it his best shot and I have a good feeling about this. I've seen the potential in this track before. I have a picture of Modifieds going 5-wide (that's FIVE-wide) through turns 3 and 4 that I ran in a Hook's Dirt Track Review a few years ago and I believe we can see that kind of racing at the TMS Dirt Track again. It may take a try or two on his part -- like it would anyone else -- but with everything else they've done to make this show better for the dirt track fans and drivers this year, they deserve our support from all throughout the region this year!

Want to make a weekend out of it?

They have a camping area with shower facilities right next door. The cost is $50 for the weekend. (No hook-ups) Thursday is practice with qualifying races on Friday and then the Saturday show.

Pit gates open at Noon on Saturday with the grandstand gates and suites opening at 4PM. Practice will start at 5PM on Saturday with Late Model practice set for 6:15. Eight Limited Modified qualifiers will immediately follow the Late Model practice. Limited Modified and Modified qualifier starting positions along with the top eight cars in the pole dashes will be determined by Friday's heat races and qualifying features. Only the top 2 from each of Saturday's Modified and Limited Modified qualifiers will advance to their respective main events.

Opening ceremonies are set for 7PM after the Limited Mod qualifiers end and first up after that will be the SUPR Late Model heat races so don't be late if that's what you are coming to see! The Limited Mod pole dash will be next to set the first four rows of their A main and that will be followed by the eight Modified qualifiers and the Modified pole dash -- same format as the Limited Mods. The SUPR Late Model last chance races will follow.

Then the night ends with the three big main events: The $2000 to win Limited Modified feature, the $3000 to win Modified feature and the $3500 to win SUPR Late Model feature! All this for $10!!!

The only way this could be a better deal is if it were sprint cars

Maybe one day....again...

I saw Jason Johnson win his first WoO feature anywhere at TMS by rim riding about 2 foot off the outside wall!

NOTE: Thursday's practice is NOT open to the general public. I assume that means team members only.

PRACTICE TONIGHT! NOT open to the general public. So you better be holding a tire guage and have a driver to vouch you in!

$50 per car, crew free.
