Has anyone out there had any experience with SCAT crankshafts? It looks like they make a good product but I never hear about them. I am always hearing about Callies and Crower though.
Thanks

Must not be too bad, there is probably more scat cranks on race tracks across the U.S. than anything else.

Do not run the lightweight Scat crank in a sprint car! I'm talking about the one that costs like $1100 - $1200. We tried that a few years ago-had one that was fine until we burned it pretty bad from an oiling problem. The next two both broke @ the #1 / 2 rod journal, allowing the front part to wipe out the front main bearing & web-had to weld up, remachine, and line bore. Both times, it happened when I would slow down-once slowing down from hot laps, and once after I had just set fast time. The engine was still running and had 10-15 lbs oil pressure, but obviously was not very happy. This was in a stout 410 motor that was professionally balanced, but something about not having a harmonic balancer kills those cranks. After that, we finally spent $2700 or so on a new Callies Magnum XL and haven't looked back.

Slightly off subject ,but I bought a 3.625 light weight sonny bryant crank.I was informed at purchase they took a raw GM fordging and did their thing to it ....worked great ,had it through 3rebuilds then sold the motor...more of an endorsement of Bryant than a state ment for or against scat

I wouldn't think Sonny takes a GM forging and then finishes it to his specs on one of his high end pieces. However I would believe that Sonny and know for a fact that Crower does get raw forgings from GM and then finishes it to their specs on their Pure Stock and Stock Plus line of cranks.
I have seen a few guys bring in their engines (360) with Scat crank and rods and knock on wood they're holding up.
Most professional engine builders can't or won't take a chance with those "other" pieces, instead relying on a Crower, Callies, Bryant, etc........ in which they know will hold up to the demands.

the way I look at it , If your utilizeing a handfull of used /economic parts the SCAT might be worth a try? Ive heard the good and the bad of the item, If your putting alot of effort/cash and new items in the mill I would use the most popular/common for sprint applications Bryant,Callies,Crower ect those will cost more , but, the Scat could cost more in the long run , and dont forget the frustration? , Personaly my good motor I have a Callies, the P.O.S motor I used a Ohio extreemly cheap, "the folks there said it could take the abuse"? I dunno , I was in a pinch, we finished off the season , I dont think I have really abused it yet, but it has held up so far, Im not much help, Just remember how attached you are to your block, rods, pistons ? , If your running for points with one mill, get the better of the two and dont second guess yourself, you did the right thing. If you buy the cheaper crank you might have enuff money in your pocket to buy a pop and watch from the trailer? goodluck!

We've used them in one or two ASCS engines in a pinch and they seem to be pretty good.

theyre ok, but they do have a horsepower limitation...not a top of the line piece if youre planning on twisting the snot out of it

O.K. my turn. What about BRC, Lunati, Eagle,L.A. Enterprise cranks? How do they stack up?
The older I get, the faster I used to be.

never seen or used a BRC. I would rate eagle with scat and compstar. good cranks for the medium power range, possible joe blow drag racer or pure stock guy. LA made a real nice crank, but theyre not in business anymore???
