You folks know the names: Bloomquist, Moyer, Francis, Lanigan, Eckert, etc., etc....well, let's just go ahead and get over with....add another one to the list!

With the way things started in Florida, no doubt that "Kid Rocket" otherwise known as Josh Richards -- a 20-year old Dirt Late Model sensation from the hills of West Virgiania who already has 4 years of World of Outlaw Late Model Racing under his belt -- has to be the early odds-on favorite to win the first Lonestar 100 at Battleground.

Josh is coming off a great Speedweeks in Florida where he scored 5 Dirt Late Model wins -- 3 with the Lucas Oil Late Models at East Bay, all within 24 hours, 1 with UMP DIRTcar at Voluisian and one with the World of Outlaws which happened to be the third straight year that Josh has won the WoO opener. Those five netted him over $45,000 in winnings plus he had some other top ten finishes.

There's folks out there who already predicted this though. I found this a www.worldofoutlaws.com/LateModel :

Concord, NC — By Kevin Kovac, WoO LMS P.R. Director

Josh Richards is ready to reach the mountaintop of the World of Outlaws Late Model Series.

That’s the press contingent’s consensus opinion of the 20-year-old sensation from Shinnston, W.Va., who was voted the overwhelming favorite to win the national tour’s 2009 points championship in the second annual WoO LMS Pre-Season Media Poll.

Two-dozen writers, photographers and broadcasters who cover the WoO LMS participated in the poll, which asked the press members to predict the top-five finishers in the tour’s 2009 points standings. Points were distributed to each driver named on the media ballots using a 5-4-3-2-1 system.

Richards tallied 106 points in the poll, including an impressive 17 first-place votes. No other driver received more than three first-place selections and Richards appeared on all 24 media ballots – a clear sign of the good feelings swirling around the young driver entering the 2009 WoO LMS campaign, which kicks off on Feb. 12 and 14 with a pair of programs during the 38th annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla.

Coming off a breakout 2008 season that saw him win a career-high six A-Mains (tied for the series lead) and finish second in the points standings, Richards carries plenty of momentum into the new year. He captured the tour’s ’08 season finale during the VAULT World Finals at The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C., and tuned up for the WoO LMS by winning three features last week in other Florida action.

The 2005 WoO LMS Rookie of the Year is set to make his fifth fulltime assault on the tour behind the wheel of his father Mark’s Seubert Calf Ranches-sponsored Rocket Chassis house car. Prior to his runner-up finish in last year’s points battle, he placed eighth (2005), ninth (2006) and sixth (2007) in the standings.

One media member provided a comment that neatly sums up the general feeling about Richards’s prospects in 2009.

“He kicked off 2008 with a win (at Volusia) and closed it with a win,” wrote the journalist. “This year he’ll be good the whole year – ‘Kid Rocket’ becomes ‘King Rocket.’”

So, Loxley, Alabama is up next for the not-yet-crowned Kid Rocket and the rest of the World of Outlaw Late Model competitors on March 13th and 14th and then we'll see what he has when he comes to Texas on March 20th and 21st!

Hoping to have a good showing for the hometown crowd at Battleground, Baytown, Texas racer Kevin Sitton with a big motor on loan, tuned up by pulling off an excellent 2nd place finish in a field of 60 Late Models at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track in Fort Worth Saturday night!

Kevin is the reigning SUPR Late Model Rookie-of-the-Year after winning 3 features on that tour in 2008. He also came up through the Houston-area's tough Limited Modified ranks.

Can he catch a Rocket? We'll see in less than 3 weeks!!!

As seen on SPEED!!!

Quote:
The World of Outlaw Late Models will make their first Texas appearance in nearly 5 years with a first time visit to Mike Walling's Battleground Speedway. Battleground is located on the east side of Houston just north of I-10 near Highlands. Kentucky's Darrell Lanigan is the defending champion of the national touring series -- the 2400 pound, fully fendered version of their Sprint Car cousins.

Don't let their size and weight fool you though. These cars fly! You may have seen the WoO Late Models or it's rival series the Lucas Oil Late Models on SPEED TV. If you have then you already know how exciting they can be but wait until you see them live. You're going to love this one!

Dubbed the "Lonestar 100", qualifying time trials and heat races will be on Friday night, March 20th with last chance qualifying races and the 100-lap, $20,000 to win finale on Saturday night, March 21st. It will attract World of Outlaw regulars such as Kentucky's Steve Francis, Pennsylvania's Rick Eckert, Georgia's Shane Clanton and Illinois racer Shannon Babb as well non-WoO regular surprises from around Texas, Louisiana and throughout the southwest.

Brian Birkhofer, Muscatine, Iowa

Call him "Birky"!

According to his website at www.brianbirkhoferracing.com, Brian Birkhofer will make a rare Texas appearance when the World of Outlaw Late Models visit Battleground Speedway in Highlands, just east of Houston off I-10. Brian's biggest win came at Tony Stewart's Eldora Speedway in Ohio back in 2002 when he won the famed World 100 considered by many to be THE crowned jewel of the Dirt Late Model racing world.

But just last year, Birky added a win at what some say is the second biggest Dirt Late Model race when he captured the 2008 Dirt Track World Championship also held in Ohio.

Birkhoffer has raced in Texas before at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track and the Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore but it's been a while. Come to Battleground Speedway on the 20th and 21st and help welcome Birky and the rest of the best Dirt Late Model pilots in the country back to the Lone Star State and maybe he'll leave with a Texas Lonestar 100 trophy to add to his collection!!!
