The new track will be called Ogilvie Raceway and their website is up and running.

The track looks nice!
I'm a little surprised though. Their business model/strategy, including proposed car classes looks like the same tired out show that we see across our region. Lots of entry level classes thrown together to make up a night of disappointments.
The same strategies will produce the same results. Building a new track is a big risk, especially if you need the track to produce financially. Their proposed line up isn't going to produce much of anything.

The way I see it, is race tracks and promoters have two choices. The two choices are; quality or quantity. We have lots of race tracks that focus on quantity. They feature lots of classes, lengthy programs and rely on the back gate. They also struggle to fill the grandstands.
I personally would like to see a race track focus on quality. Quality in my opinion is a premier class such as late models or sprints (I prefer sprints), and a support class. The support class needs to be real, hornets and pure stocks don't count. Mini sprints is an excellent support class option. They are real race cars and they are relatively inexpensive. Anyway, then the promoter needs to figure out how to create an atmosphere where the race fan can't wait to find out what might happen week after week.
One more thing to think about. Some race tracks who feature major events, such as the World of Outlaws, might actually make more money, if they ran two major events per season and eliminated their weekly shows. How can tracks create World of Outlaw type excitement on a weekly basis?
By the way, I'm not trying to get everyone all fired up, I'm just trying to stimulate some ideas. I'll write more later in the week. Sanctioning bodies are next on my hit list!

sure would be nice to have a local track focused on open wheel racing. pitnote, i agree with what you say but it's a lot easier to type opinions than it is to write checks. i know i would like to see about 3 classes of cars and a 4 hour show. sprints, b-mods and micros would be ok with me. dream on?

I don't think the race fans really need or want a 4 hour show-when was the last ime you sat thru a 4 hour movie or sporting event- 7pm to 10 pm, 7:30-10:30 is enough for me. The track is in a rural setting and most racers & fans will have a drive to get to it. I'd much rather see a good smoothly run faster show and have time to go to the pits and visit with the race teams & check out the cars than have to head out with all the other traffic trying to get out at the same time- just my 2 cents worth-any how- good luck to new track. Husets Speedway.. Brandon S.D. 2 to 2 and half hour show.Good crowds..Lot of action on the 3/8s mile track. That should be the blueprint for any speedway.Good luck to this new track and hope the winter snowmobile ice oval racing there is succesful also!!
