A few years ago there was talk of a new dirt track at the Antelope Valley fairgrounds. Anyone know what happened?

There was a lot of talk, and if you remember Ron Shuman and SCRA were hoping to make that track a home base.

Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

Lancaster, along side of the 14....there is an offroad track there now ...motorcycles ,..and they televised some stadium styleoff road truck races there .I think its a lost cause for putting in a dirt track .They seem successful doing what their doing now..but a great location

At the 5 and highway 43 there is a brand new track they just, or are about to fnish... Great track, I know its supposed to be an asphalt track, they have stopped the cunstruction due to lack of funds... Its allllllllll DIRT right now.... Great looking track, I think they should leave it the way it is and we could do the opening ceremony on it.....http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesa_Marin_Raceway

Its Marion Collins the old owner of mesa marin who is behind this....

The fairgrounds that was being talked about for the track back then...is no more, and is different than the one along Highway 14.

The old fairgrounds had a rarely used 3/8 mile dirt oval and was located at Division and I in Lancaster. In 2003, new fairgrounds were opened at Highway 14 & H, about 3 miles away.

The old fairgrounds site has been razed, the grandstand was torn down in late 2003 IIRC. It just sits there, empty right now.

The new fairgrounds has a motocross course, but the Stadium off-road trucks only ran one year (2007). When the fairgrounds was built they left space and had an outline for a 1/4 mile banked oval that was used for a rally stage. Last I checked, it's still there.

Have a very rare thing out here, a sports columnist in the local paper who has encouraged a dirt track at the new fairgrounds from the time the plan to move to the site was announced.

That's right bigfish, SCRA and Shuman were involved. I recall photos of the track (I believe it was from the new fairground's location) and they showed the track already there - if I recall correctly. They were supposed to add bleachers. Too bad the track died due to $$ and lack of interest because it would have been just another southern California race track for the fans.

The track you talk about is Kern County Raceway. It already has a layer or 2 of asphalt already down.

Sorry
