Boycott the Chili Bowl showing on speed. Selfish jerks could have shown at least the a-main live. They are a racing channel and they don't even show live racing when there is no other racing going on.
They should be called Auction instead of Speed. If you haven't heard who won then I won't spoil it for you, but we should still watch something else.

Yeah - that really makes a LOT of sense..... then maybe next year we can all band together and take a stand so they won't show it at all - that'll show them who's boss. /sarcasm

I think calling SPEED a racing channel is a contradiction of the facts.....
they have gone the same route SPIKE and E and all the rest of the reality channel bitches. thats what they show - these dumbass shows with their dumbass charachters. they need to show more diverse racing - and MORE MORE MORE OF IT. thousands of dirt tracks racing every weekend through the summer - and how much of it those dirty bastards show? instead they try to make american chopper-like reality bullshit shows.
they should at least air 2 big primetime DIRT TRACKS races - during primetime i mean - every weekend through the summer. as well as continue to show every single other type of racing too. its not just dirt track racing that gets overlooked - pretty much everything does actually ------ trying to cover everything with just the Wind Tunnel doesnt really cut it. but i guess its got enough nascar fan like idiots who like their stupid reality crap.....
so THANK YOU to ESPN. yep thats right - ESPN. because i like college basketball - exciting to watch. and ESPN SHOW TOOOOOOONS OF IT!!!!!! like 5-6 games EVERY SINGLE NIGHT during conference season. thats how speed should air racing. of course there isnt much going on right now - so thats how they could show tons of it. tape a whole bunch during the summer - show stuff live during the summer - but also tape a bunch of events during the summer to show during primetime hours in the winter.
How much would could a wouldchuck chuck if a
wouldchuck could chuck would

I agree with all the above posts. I mean who wants to sit 3 0r 4 hours watching Rich Bastards buy cars that are way overpriced. What does that have to do with racing? Monster trucks are cool but do we really need to see repeated events every other weekend. Drifting is another thing I can't stand. Lets see who can burn a set of tires better than the next guy. Racing? I THINK NOT!!!!!
I sure miss the old TNN days, and Thursday Night Thunder. Those were the days when you could watch a full show of Heats, C & B mains, dashes, and Features. Those guys knew how to cover an event. This shit of Heat "highlights" doesn't do anything for me.

I have been trying to tell you guys for years, it takes money to put races on TV. All of those other shows have sponsors that pay for them, and it is cheaper to shoot those kind of shows. When dirt track racing can come up with sponsors to pay for the shows, then there will be some more on TV. A lot of the racing shows are going to "VS" this year. It doesn't cost them as much to get it on there.

From what I understand the chili bowl wasn't live because it interefered with the flow of the program. The promoter wasn't able to run his show the way he needed to, to put on a good show for the fans while trying to accomodate the tv crews. Now why it took Speed so darn long to broadcast it after I can't be sure. A month does seem a little bit long.

But they are going to show the taped delayed Chili Bowl on TV. My complaint was, if they were going to show it anyways, why not show it live. Of course not ALL 5 days but the main on Saturday would have been something to try. They could have run a "ticker tape" of commercials on the bottom so they wouldn't have to break for them during the race. ESPN does it all the time for the Indy cars.
Oh well, that was just an opinion about the boycott of Speed. I know I won't be watching it....it shows on Valentines Day, and to keep the rest of the racing season smooth I will be taking my beautiful wife out to dinner.

Like everybody else, Speed is going for the prime target audience, Generation Zero Attention Span. That's why EVERY channel is filling up with reality crap. That's the same reason the NASCAR shows on Speed always have 5 people talking over each other with cheering drunks in the background. GOD FORBID SOMEBODY, EVEN ONE PERSON, GETS BORED AND CHANGES THE CHANNEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why show tape delayed instead of live? Because it costs about $40,000 more to do it live.

Amen to that!! I've seen demo derby's, school bus racing, trailer racing, dirt drag racing, and enough Monster trucks to make me sick. But no sprints/midgets. How about some real racing?? I honestly cannot imagine people watch that crap. But i guess money talks. The people at LUCAS oil should be ashamed of themselves if they are the reason that it's not on TV.

Why is it so hard for some people to understand that money determines what is shown on television and when? Until some of you who continually whine about these things either pay the bills or find a large company to pay the bills; this is how it will be. Support what little dirt track racing is televised and it could lead to bigger and better television packages. Support your local dirt tracks and those dedicated people who are kind enough capture all racing for those of us that were not at the shows.

Unfortunately, if a live broadcast is chosen, it seriously crunches down on the time that is spent on pre-race ceremonies, something that I know we all appreciate as they are an important part to the Chili Bowl's history. If the race is to be shown live, the promoters would have had to bend to the TV station's will, as they have to use the time-slots available to them. I agree, the tape delay should be shown sooner rather than later, but a live showing is not the answer. Think of the cool stuff that has been lost over the years due to the growth of this event (basketball). I for one certainly do not want to see the loss of more traits that make the Chili Bowl the Chili Bowl.

I wish they put more "big" races on pay-per-view like they have done with the Chili Bowl and the Prelude at Eldora in the past.
It is a way to get around the problems created by showing the races live on network television.
Surely some money was made last year off the Chili Bowl PPV. I know I bought it and would do it again in the future if it was available.
