Ugh, I'm all for visiting new tracks, but with teams struggling economically, I cannot understand why USAC would schedule this race. Why not schedule it for the Friday night before the Saturday/Sunday night races at Calistoga in August?

Right on radrodinib. I don't think puts in much effort or thinking when they make the CRA/USAC schedule.

I think you guys are missing the point. USAC/CRA is thinking and responding to the needs of the series. I am sure they are interested in expanding non-winged racing to those where they don't see a great deal of the 410 version...one could say a hungry market. The June date is an appetiser if you will for the Calistoga date. USAC/CRA is a traveling series and although the tow is significant, there is a free market sapect to it, the CRA teams that travel vote their approval by supporting the event. Those that chose not to make the tow (for what ever reason) will be balanced by the local 410/360 teams that want to take advantage of the opportunities.
This is a big win for sprint car racing in general and the benefits greatly out weigh the negatives. I am referring to those benefits to the majority of individuals who make up the sport, not just the ones who want to race a local series.
The Bandit Series obviously (and VRA to an extent) are local based series' and do limit their travel. For those who want to stay in SoCal they have the Perris/Victorville/VRA option including a night off. The Bandit Series used to travel greater distances (Perris and Las Vegas) but that doesn't serve our core. The same isn't true for USAC/CRA who counting their history with CRA and SCRA have always been a traveling buncheven though they have had a steady home base to race from. It is their DNA and make-up to travel and let their teams experience different tracks and by the same token let fans experience the 410 nonwing show. There are not many tracks in Ca. that have not seen the 410 nonwingers in action at one point or another, even if they aren't on the schedule.
I could go on but teams that can be successful on every track on the circut are the ones that deserve to be battling for championships. For our market (Bandits/VRA) teams can compete for track titles and the Grand Salami just like the Victorvillians and the Perrisians or the Over all titles like the CRA or the Bandito overall title.

Two things I look forward to @ Petaluma - both good and bad. The good is the 3/8 mile semi-banked clay oval. The bad of course is the five hour drive north. Though we will more than likely spend the weekend at my brother's place in Stockton (I look forward to that). A quick check of the Golden State Challenge (GSC) schedule finds the "wingers" @ Skagit in Washington on June 20. For 410 sprint car teams not traveling north the CRA Petaluma race offers an opportunity to run without a wing and also prepare for the Lou Vermeil Memorial @ Calistogta on Labor Day weekend. Other sprint car events find the 360 Civil War series running at American Valley Raceway in Quincey on June 20, with no racing scheduled @ Placerville due to the El Dorado County Fair. Also Silver Dollar in Chico has no scheduled 410 or 360 races that weekend. Antioch offers dirt modifieds and late model stock cars on June 20. Ocean, in Watsonville, has not published their complete schedule as of today, with the exception of their Outlaw dates and Johnny Key race, but their 360s normally run on Friday nights. So hopefully we fans can expect maybe 10 additional 410 teams for the Petaluma show. As turn4rob might say, "Take me back to Petaluma."

I stand by what I stated...those that can travel will, those that can't will get a week off to tool up for the next local event. Those that cannot make the trip will be made up for by those NorCal teams that want to play. This does fill a demand for aother USAC 410 race in NorCal. The 360 Run What You Brung Show is a good example. I wish it were an off week-end for the Bandito's- was won by a Bandito- Steven Williams- while the Bandits were racing at Kings.
I have nothing against tow money, it's all good right? Where does it come from, the sanctioning body or the promoter? Who recieves it??? Everyone ore the top teams??? USAC-CRA, I am certain, scheduled this with the concept that these teams wanted this. If not, they vote with their participation.
Also, debates aside, USAC-CRA charges a lot for everything and has quite a large group that it uses to handle race administration...doubt theres much money left over after their respective expenses...probably cost's a fortune in Micky D's burgers and Motel 6 alone! How much more will it cost for tow money???
We all think that they'll pack the house and we would like the promoter to make a killing on the night so they can do it again next season, right??? Successfull race tracks mean we can do what we love to do. Then maybe there is something to asking for some tow money for some teams (or all???) to make the long tow from SoCal.
