Is the Chili Bowl going to be televised this year? I haven't seen anything about it yet.

The Chili Bowl website says: Portions of the 23rd Annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals presented by General Tire will be broadcast on SPEED TV on a one-week tape-delayed basis on Saturday night, January 24. Additional details will be available soon.

I liked the pay per view deal they had last year. It must not have made enough cash to continue. The whole tape delayed deal just doesn't do it for me.

Had heard that the pay per view was very successful and that it was going to broadcast live on SPEED originally with the same type format. What's the point of showing it on a tape delay basis a week later. It's not like it's not sold out!!!!

It is delayed so that they can edit the footage. There might be other reasons, but if they have 60 or 120 minutes to work with the program has to be tight. Live TV is risky for lots of reasons. My guess is that it will be 60 minutes, and it is free. I liked the pay per view, but this is what is going on this year. Greg Stevens does a very good DVD of everything. That is another option.

Greg Stephens' DVD set has the best coverage available - every race from every night, great knowledgeable announcers, no BS filler and with an experienced camera crew that has shot more Chili Bowl races (and collectively probably more open wheel races) than anyone.

Some people cant get off work or whatever to go. And some people want to watch it again. And soom people cant make the last night. Any coverage is good for the future of it i think.

Win as if you are use to it.And lose as if you enjoyed
it for a change. Its hard to get to the top and alot
harder to stay there.

Everyone that has Dish or Direct TV needs to contact them and tell them wht you think of no live broadcast.

WTF do Dish or DirecTV have to do with no live broadcast? It was also on cable systems. THEY DID NOT PRODUCE THE PROGRAM. They simply carried it.

Why would you complain to anyone you don't do business with? If you have cable complain to them.

Do you actually think that Dish, DirecTV and the cable companies decided own their own to put together a pay per view package on something that 95% of the country knows nothing about? Last year's deal was no doubt put together by the Chili Bowl promoters themselves, or someone they contracted with. The reason there's no pay per view this year could be the ecomony, or they didn't make money last year, or they were afraid people would stay home and watch it rather than make the trip. I haven't seen anything on this board from the Chili Bowl people saying, "We wanted to do another pay per view, but the big, bad satellite and cable companys wouldn't let us." Let's not forget the 2000-2001 sports bar deal that only lasted those 2 years. If there was enough money to be made, there would be pay per view this year.
