Stewart, now owner of his NASCAR Sprint Cup team, confirmed that this was his only indoor racing appearance of the winter. He said he will attend the Chili Bowl Nationals next month in Tulsa, Okla., but won’t race due to other commitments.(Fort Wayne News Sentinel)(12-28-2008)

So if he's going to be there but not racing does that mean he's preparing the track or working in the hotdog stand?  Doesn't make sense to me.  Who will drive the pre-entered #14...Smoke Johnson or Mickey Fedorcheck?

Just speculation on my part, but my guess is that he knows that huge responsibility of owning and driving for his own NAPCAR team and can not risk injury like the one he got a few years ago. It is tough enough to find sponsors these days, even tougher when you'd have to explain to your sponsor that you can not drive the car that they signed up to sponsor.

I think that Tony has a thing for Races he has never won,now that he has won the Chili Bowl twice it might not be a priority for him. But he will run it again. I know he has never won the Belleville Nationals,,he has been second a few times. It just hasnt been just right for him there. Tony is like AJ FOYT ,,AJ won in Indy Cars and Sprints and Nascar,,,Tony has that thing about him,,,, about winning in different types of racing and if anyone is like AJ FOYT it is TONY STEWART.. His nascar team this year is # 14 because of the `respect he has for FOYT. Tony tried Late Models this year to i think he will maybe do some more of that.along with other new things.

One thing about Tony Stewart he can win in anything and he LOVES trying to.And now that he is a Promoter we might see some other things in that direction also.He sure was a big help to Danny the DUDE at the KC Kemper Arena show in December..Tony will make racing better and funner to watch no matter what side of the fence he is standing. on....

Win as if you are use to it.And lose as if you enjoyed
it for a change. Its hard to get to the top and alot
harder to stay there.

i think its freakin awesome he wont be there. now so many that go there with that in mind can be disappointed - and the rest who go to see the best race in the world - still have a funkin blast!

in the end he's just another entry - 1 more - or 1 less. No show Kahne could be absent and i could give a hell less about that too.

my apologies for the bitter tone. i like this more as the best race of the year than the freakin novelty a few see it as. but a few bad apples sure as shit dont spoil it. the fun begins in just a few days with Tulsa Shootout

Maybe Stewart doesn't pre-enter so the NASCAR fans who've never been to a real short track race don't buy up all of the tickets and then whine about everything.

Smoke will probably only be there sitting around just out of every one view so all those people that came to see him can bitch about how rude he is. But later when he sits down for that hour after the races if he does it since he is not racing they will be the first in line to tell him how great he is. Chili Bowl is the best race of the year to go to. Tony doesn't make it a better show.

While I'm not a real big Schatz fan, still...

How would a Knoxville Nationals champion, World of Outlaws champion...be "a complete waste of a car"?

I think if it was Schatz, it would not be a secret and the car number would be 15.

Dunno 'bout that -- Donny has excellent throttle control (and NO - not traction control) and that's a major factor in it takes to run well at the Bowl - those who drive over their head usually end up on it.

yeah but then again ------ he did put Josh Richards in a car lol. that guy can drive a late model round the world times over - and hell i shouldnt complain - it was fun to watch lol. u just knew he was going over - and whoosh there he go. the video on youtube of him flipping was truly vintage - hell everyone knew it was going to happen - and it was still a hoot to watch.

i say there are 293 reasons to not give a shit about tony stewart being there....

track conditions allowing - this will be the best chili bowl yet!
