EAST GRABS “COPPER WORLD” MIDGET RACE
NOVEMBER 10, 2008 --- Bobby East of Brownsburg, Ind. dominated Thursday’s “Copper World Classic” USAC National/Western Midget race presented by Fast Signs at Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway, leading all 25 miles in his Klatt Enterprises Ford Racing/Club Sport Beast/Esslinger Ford.
East won the pole and was never seriously challenged as Brad Kuhn took second ahead of Cole Carter, Kasey Kahne and Jason Leffler.
Tracy Hines finished 18th and lost some ground on USAC National Midget point runner-up Cole Whitt in his bid to become USAC’s sixth “Triple Crown” driving champion. Whitt was eighth and now trails Hines by just 17 points entering the November 27 “Turkey Night Grand Prix” finale at Irwindale, Calif.
Western Midget point leader Nic Faas finished 22nd at Phoenix but has a 133-point margin over Scott Pierovich entering the Irwindale finale, which offers 66 total points. Pierovich was 30th in Thursday’s “Copper World Classic.”
