JESSE HOCKETT TO RACE IN VENTURA’S ALL COAST CHALLENGE
by Lee Elder

VENTURA, Calif. (Nov. 11, 2008) – Ventura Raceway confirmed today that sprint car hotshoe Jesse Hockett will compete at the Raceway Nov. 15 in the All Coast Construction 3-2-1 Challenge.

Hockett, winner of the 2008 Oval Nationals race at Perris Auto Speedway, will drive a car owned by Ventura’s Steve Watt. Hockett lives in Warsaw, Missouri.

Raceway promoter Jim Naylor also said Tuesday that local hero Cory Kruseman has indicated he will compete at Ventura and that Troy Rutherford, who leads the Challenge standings, will enter.

The All Coast Construction 3-2-1 Challenge will also mark the final race of the season for Ventura’s Sprint Car class. Kevin Kierce, of Reseda, leads Santa Clarita’s Clark Templeman III by 240 points in the Raceway standings and can clinch the title by starting the main event.

The spectator gates open at 3 p.m. and the youth class heat races start at 3:30. The adult heats start at 5:30.

More information about Ventura Raceway is available at www.venturaraceway.com.

A couple of things.

1) I would say Steve Watt's car is competitive, but can you set it up right for the main?

a) There is a pill draw..I'm assuming no qualifying and the inversion? Your gambling at Ventura.

b) It's a small track with a lot bumping. What are the chances you get won't get on the

wrong side of a "raw deal"?

2) I'm assuming there will be no policing of "soaking" tires, big motors or fuel additives?

a) So let's say you win, did you cheat and who would know?

Sincerely,

Larry Otani

No I didn't Kevin. Certainly my fault and nothing against Mr. Watt. I meant no harm, just don't make it to Ventura that often. Just curious as to the ride that Mr. Hockett will be in this Saturday.

Nothing against "Biggy", but I think it would be unfair to say Steve will have the most competitive

car at the track. I would bet their will be at least 10 cars as competive as Biggy's. In fact,

I have only seen Biggy's car at the track once and Cory was driving it. And although Cory

did well I thought it was a little tight.

Sincerely,

Larry Otani

P.S. Still feel there should durometer hardness checking of the tires after the main, pumping of the motors and a fuel sample check to make sure no one is cheating, otherwise it's just another race which someone is trying to steal 5,000 dollars.

There will be at least 10 cars as competive as Biggy's and he will be working on over half of them.

Larry

Why do you think there will be no tech before or after the race? Or the tires checked at push off?

Jay P,

You answered my question. Just wanted to keep everybody honest.

Thankyou.

There have been rumors of people running big motors. And I repeat...just rumors, but I believe it.

Would bet my life on it. I bet at least 10% of the racers run tires that have been tampered with..ie..

soaked in Kerosene or something.

I bet illegal fuels have been run at the track.

At one point, pumping motor was pretty standard at Ventura, Checking fuel was done and sent out

and checked. And durometer hardness checked, but I don't know if inforced.

You do all three after the main it will keep people honest.

Sincerely,

Larry Otani

I am almost positive Hockett will be in a new Maxim Biggie just built. Kruseman will probably be in one of his own 410 cars with a motor from ITI Perf. Should be some fun stuff come Sat. See everyone there.

I was on the 101 today, saw a new frame in a Kruseman pick-up truck, makes you wonder if they are building a new chassis and motor for the race for Cory, than again it could of been just another frame for a school car wink.

It's not really about the 5K, although the money is nice, its about winning the biggest and badest 360 race on the West Coast (non wing) and having the bragging rights and saying your motor and chassis is best!

But we all know Jesse and Cory can drive any thing and make it look good.

Wonder if there will be any suprise entries. The 360 team at Manzy that had Brad Sweet on Friday Night is supposed to come up to Ventura, wonder if there is any chance Brad could show up? Probably not, but you never know. Haven't heard anything about Brad running anywhere the next couple of weeks.

Larry,.. when is the last time you where in tech after a sprint car feature?

I have rolled through tech 17 times this year and they have durometered the rt rear EACH time. Ive been weighed four or five times, pumped 3 times, Checked for Titanium driveline two or three times, Had valve angle checked twice, and had fuel samples taken three or four times.

Although I would like to see a VERY stringent tech Sat night, Kieth and the guys at ventura do a pretty good job.

IMO VRA owes it to All Coast (the people who put up the big money) to do a VERY extensive tech job this week. I would like to see the top 5 weighed, pumped, checked for Titanium drive line AND Intake menifolds removed to make sure that no one has molested their gaskets in any way.

Yeah no kidding. Larry keep your BS rumors and idle wondering to yourself. If youve got some sort of evidence go to Naylor and the VRA tech staff have them do something about it.

Honestly, WTF is your problem spreading this kind of BS that you pulled out of your rear end? Sepculating before anyone has even loaded up is a crock of bollocks. No wonder you get banned from every sprint car board you post on.

Someone always has to rain on the parade out of spite or jealousy or just plain stupidity whatever I have really had enough. If you dont have facts and proof about something then KEEP IT TO YOURSELF. Stop with the rumors. You dont like Ventura, the track, the staff, the fans, the way things are run, whatever, I will fix it for you. DONT GO. Stay away. Go somewhere else you can have fun. I dont know of anyone who has been forced into the race track at gun point either to race or spectate. Noones family has been kidnapped to force them to run at Ventura. Im tired of all the rumors about Ventura round here based entirely on someone making crap up because some guy whos friends uncle who knows a guy whos neighbours with this other guy who has seen a sprint car once.

This is an awesome event which is triggering a lot of excitement, looks like we are going to get a lot of cars and great drivers who normally dont run Ventura, this is fantastic and a lot of people are pumped and ready to go race or go see a great show. So many people have worked their tails off getting ready, raising money, getting the word out, the schedule has even changed to make sure we have plenty of time to get the event run on a great racing surface. I appreciate every driver, owner and team who can dust off whatever racing machine they own haul it to the track and race as hard as they can for their own entertainment as well as ours. I can barely afford to spectate and the little bit I have usually given for various events hasnt been there for me this year and I am pretty amazed that we are still seeing the fields of race cars that we are seeing. The sponsorship coming through with all the extra cash for the VRA this year was awsome the racing has been fantastic all season and everyone involved should be commended not put under a magnifying glass because someone sat down at a keyboard and typed out a bunch of balony.

Sorry. Thats how I feel. See you saturday. Good luck to all the drivers where ever they are racing this weekend.

I dont know what everyones whining about, how long has the rest of the country been without weekly racing?
