my boss just bought a brand new ascs for about 30k around 730 hp. 360 open is about 760 hp
my team bought a used fresh open 360 two years ago for 15k about 740 hp. 410's are 40k easy from most popular builders. if you are finding hard running motors for the price you posted you need to buy a few and make some money.
|
No, I didn't know about the 410's but I thought I heard 25k. Maybe that is used.

ASCS not saving money?
The ONLY way you wouldn't save a TON of money racing ASCS is if you live on the Eastern or Western seaboard. If you live anywhere from Colorado to Tennessee or Texas to North Dakota, most races are within a 6-12 hour drive from home. Outside of those areas, you'll have a little more travel expense but you'll still be at home more often and spend less on the road.
ASCS - home every week (a couple of times per year you're out on the road for 2 weeks at a time).
WoO - home every couple of weeks (if lucky) so you're paying for the "crew" to be away from home; fuel, entertainment, etc.
ASCS - rebuilds every 20-25 nights on a good quality motor. (some top runners have ran a motor as many as 35 nights)
WoO - rebuild every 6-10 nights depending on engine/track/builder/etc.
ASCS - RR tire rule.
WoO - Open tires, you have to have an inventory of tires at all times.
ASCS - Weight rule
WoO - No weight rule, build em' as light and as expensive as you can!
ASCS - 40 race schedule, usually off 2 times per month.
WoO - TOO MANY! The more races, the more money you lose, like it or not!
ASCS - $30,000 brand new engine, pan to injectors
WoO - Are they over $50,000 yet or are they still in the $40's?

You forgot to factor in the lower income from the lower purses.
Besides, the Lucas ASCS deal is still a concept. They have no history yet, and no one yet knows if it is the real deal or just a recycled ASCS National (turned mostly regional) Series, which was also supposed to take over the sprint car world. If it happens exactly as promised, I'll be the first (or second) to admit I was wrong.

Pissing off people or not, the money always wins out. Most ALL the drivers running the ASCS would much rather be running the WOO tour if they could get a quality ride. For now the ASCS is still viewed as a training wheels series.
|
yeah of you live somewhere with good 410 racing.
and even many if 410 land - as evidenced on this forum and others - admit that the 360 racing is more competitive and you get your moneys worth much more than many 410 races/series.
training wheels series? you are living in the past. if you want to look at quality of drivers OVERALL - yeah i wont much argue - but if you're one who isnt dazzled and starry eyed over circus clowns (woo drivers) - if the quality of racing is what you are up for - then ascs/360's cant much be considered second hand. up until lanny edwards started overcharging and butchering ascs shows at oklahoma city - i loved the fact we didnt have the WoO bullshit round here anymore. you could 30+ to watch 3 or 4 guys murder the field of 22 (22 total that is) in a single file affair - or (until lanny started screwing with it) pay 15$ to see damn near 50 cars and man they were comin from all over the region. all states surrounding oklahoma, even memphis area drivers. and it was wide open anyone could win.
now the ascs car counts have been droppin somewhat around here. hope it gets better. but the ascs shows here only sucked because our hall of fame promoter would go about it as if it was the last show he would ever promote. 20$ and he would only add the dinky ass factory stock division we have here (another thing he ruined and is down to round 10 cars) - and he would run modifieds - which sadly was a better feature than the ascs - because lanny would put together a swamp to run on. maybe it wouldnt be so bad - but we have - and have had GREAT weekly sprint racing for quite some time here. we run 2 360 classes - both have smaller wings and run slightly less horsepower than ascs - and we get good #'s in both. so when you see 50+ sprints total for 10$ - and then ascs comes with 25 sprints total - and its a good 25 - the 20$ ticket charge was not justified - not when you run the 2 lowest paying weekly classes with it. if he ran one fo the weekly sprint classes with it - it would have been fine.
there i go again. in short - i dont think ascs is a training wheels series. i have and will continue to prefer 360's over 410's. although its not like i dislike 410's. i just get more bang for the buck at 360 races. perfect comparison - is how the Knoxville 360 Nationals have outperformed the Knoxville 410 Nationals EVERY YEAR since the former was moved to august. and will continue to most likely - even with the all stars cross scheduling in the same area.
Cappy needs to smarten up and boom that 360 nat's purse big time. last years crowd was at least double what i had seen any other year - and i been to the last 8 360 nat's. speaking of which - thak you for gettin rid of the Brodic ToC and replacing it with a non wing 410 nat's race - for once after the best one night of sprint car racing in the nation (the saturday of the knoxville 360 nationals) - sunday wont be so much of a letdown lol.

Scoop - Better to some research on purses. For example Attica/Fremont. They pay $2500 to win and $250 to start. You take out the pay on the top and it is real close to a ASCS Regional show on back. ASCS Regional pays $1500 to win and $250 to start. Fremont/Attica purse total is $11750 and a total ASCS Regional purse is about $2000 less than that. Heck the 410 regulars at Butler, Sharon, Lernerville, Mercer run for less than an ASCS purse. Not that huge of a purse difference IMO.

You like what you get to watch plain and simple. If you think the ASCS is even CLOSE to the WoO talent wise you are dillusional. Lets face it, all OK gets is 360 races, therefore you like them better, nothing wrong with that. As for the Knoxville Nats., I've been going for years and strongly disagree with the 360 nats being better than the REAL Nats. The 360 nats "piggyback" the REAL Nats. for a reason! Remember when they were run on their own and the reason they no longer run on their own? Not trying to diss anything here, but come on, this Lucas thing ain't even off the ground. I'm not guzzling from the ASCS well just yet, time will tell. Hopefully it will work out for ALL sprint racing. Heck, the ASCS should be a great feeder class for the bigger motor series.

Re-read my post. I was replying to the comparison that the poster made between the WoO vs. ASCS, simply stating that the poster forgot to factor in the lower income.
One more point. If the ASCS 360 motors are indeed reaching 760hp as posted, those extra ponies don't come cheap! Regardless of the fact that they are all required to run Emmitt's heads, the costs will definitely skyrocket exponentially as builders figure out ways to get more power out of these engines. Plus, the costs of additional engine teching will inevitably creep in as new regulations attempt to get a handle on the new technologies, and the ASCS will need to recover those costs in some way. You cannot stop technological progress; you can only slow it down some.

Team Wright-one I am curious where your boss just bought a brand new 360 for $30,000? Who was the builder?
|
is 30k too much or too cheep? i would love to say who the builder is but as i am going off numbers i heard bounced around and did not personally see the invoice maybe i should have said that. (what!)
all i can say is that it is a prominent west cost builder.

I heard that the reason that the 6 is off the tour is that Casey's has taken the money from Lonny and given it back to Gil and Donny's 47 car and Gilly is gonna have a back from retirement tour '09 comeback.
My heros have always been cowboys!!!
