Hoosier introduces the new SC12, SC15 and SC25 tires. They're harder, they have a stiffer sidewall and they'll save the racers money.
All Stars rules states 1 RR tire to be used all night.
Track is rubberdown in HEAT #3!!!
The All Stars let the teams bolt on a new RR tire to eliminate a "blow out fest".
Oops.....Back to the old drawing board...

Hawker, I thought these were to be phased in, allowing teams to use up their existing tire stock. If so, I doubt that many teams were using the new spec tire.....Anyone know for sure?

Twenty28, are you blaming the rubbered up track on the mods or saying that they had a rubbered up track too? Listening to the webcast it became pretty apparent when the rubber appeared during sprint heats 3 and 4, mods were racey before that.

You've gotta be kidding right? The only time I've seen mods rubber up a track is when they're are over 80 of the damn things and they have a ton of laps to beat on a track.
Last nights race track was rubbered up because of the track not the tire any of the cars were running.

Duane, I consider modifieds to be a necessary evil. But I can't see how they can be blamed for a rubbered up track when they have 25% of the rubber footprint, stiff sidewalls and MUCH harder compound than the sprints running on the same track.

how many NON RUBBER DOWN NIGHTS have the spints had in Florida so far?
2?

the best way to save money is to turn off the computer when the announcer says "protecting the bottom groove" to avoid the dreaded on air admission of "rubber down racing" during the victory lane interview.
Lincoln 1845 ft/.35 mile T1=118MPH
Eldora 2287 ft/.43mile T3=135MPH
Port 2716 ft/.51 mile T3=TBD

Selinsgrove 2847 ft/.54 mile T1=136MPH

Volusia has been notorious for rubbering up in the past. Just the way it is down there.

duane - there was a rumor floating around that the track was sold recently...do the new owners know something about track prep?

I have seen modifieds with their hard tires actually REMOVE the rubber from the tracks when they run with sprints. According to Solwold, in his interview, it happened last night too.

Hawker, you bring up a good point. When the tracks I worked started a FWD 4 cyl division I was completely against it on principal. But after watching what 24 sets of those little hard-edged tires do to a track starting to get worn out, I look forward to their 10 lap features. They won't help a track once it is too far gone, but they work wonders to scratch open the dirt again.
and as it turns out, they don't put on a bad show either, even on a big track....kinda like the draft at Talladega with all the dicing and blocking going on.
