This is a delayed thought, but here it is:
This forum is titled "Hoseheads General Sprint Car Forum."
In the future, can we have moderators that remove posts that aren't related to sprint car racing?
I will solely say this is in regards to political posts.
Yes, we are in the midst of a huge election. But, when I'm trying to read about anything related to sprint cars on a sprint car forum, I do not want to read about politics.
Could I choose to not click the link? Yes, sure I could. But should I have to sift through posts to read about the sport I love? I don't think so.
I might be making a bad point here, but I'm just making my thoughts. And before anyone goes off on how this post isn't sprint car related, no, it isn't, but it is for the general better of this forum.

I agree. I'm seeing this same trend of discussions about politics, religion, jokes, and other non-racing topics all too often. I'm trying to keep the threads on topic and related to our local racing over on my board. If anyone trys to hijack it with off topic threads or even racing discussions that revert to name calling and profanity I remove the offender's post and sometimes the entire thread if it was obviously posted to in such a manner as to cause controversy.
The people posting this stuff don't understand what's happening behind the scenes and they could care less if they cause trouble for us board moderators. They've never gotten an angry email from a promoter, driver, car owner, or sponsor like we have. They're sitting there anonymously behind their keyboard spewing slander and profanity and the board moderators are the ones that get called on the carpet. They don't understand, these boards are available for those of us who have racing websites but we don't receive any revenue from them. Like in my case for example, I spend the day in the office where sites that aren't necessary for our work are blocked by filtering software. I get home and have to moderate the board before doing anything else so not only do they upset the people with an investment in this sport but they're wasting our time as moderators.
My policy of deleting those types of posts won't score me any points in a popularity contest but I really don't care. If the board ends up being used by only me, my son and a couple dozen friends that just makes my job as moderator easier and gives people who can have a civilized discussion about the local racing a platform to express their views. Not everyone agrees with my approach but there are unmoderated boards out there they can use if they don't like mine.

I totally agree as well. I know at times during the off season its pretty slow on the forum for racing related discusion. Some people have used this forum as their personal spam dumping ground for just about anything they want to forward. You know that relative that forwards every joke they get to everyone in their address book or....... Forum.
My suggestion is why not create a an Off Topic Forum here for this stuff and avoid posting ANY Off Topic items here? I don't think the moderator thing here is gonna happen as it takes something pretty bad to be pulled, most is allowed to stay. If the Off Topic forum is created, about the only moderation needed would be to move the thread to Off Topic forum once spotted. Who knows even that might be too much work for owner of the board. Just a suggestion.
I know, you don't have to read every thread and I don't. I already avoid any threads by the known spammer so no problem here. This topic has came up several times but I guess the majority like the Oft Topic posts so I know we're gonna see several posts here saying who cares, if you don't like go somewhere else. Everyone is entitled to their oppinion and this mine.

I've been just about a charter member of another racing forum (Crapwagon.com) for six years where that sort of stuff has NEVER been allowed (even politics can't be discussed in the off topic forum, for that matter) and while there have been the usual interpersonal conflicts natural to any message board, at least one angle of possible flaming is prevented by that policy. So I agree with just about everyone else in this thread.

I doubt that anyone's political leanings are going to be swayed by something they read in this forum so I don't see the sense of posting anything of a political nature on this board. Ditto for things of a religious nature. I'm all for free speech but I just don't believe this is the proper place for any of that. I enjoy a good joke as much as the next person but, as suggested earlier, an 'off topic' board might be the best option for race fans to share their humor and viewpoints on other subjects.

If you don't like the post don't read it, most state right in the title that it is off topic so I don't see why you would need to sift through anything. By the way what is there like 4 or 5 OT posts out of 20 on the main page? Stop bitchin

It is no longer important to me if the rest of the world knows my religion, politics, or conspiracy theories. It is what it be and we all want for the better.

Yeah, and I don't want to read about any midget racing either, because this IS the Sprint Car Forum.
My God people, when scrolling through the topics to find a thread that interests you, do you get all "wrapped around the axle" when you have to bypass racing topics that don't interest you???
This is a racing community, and in a community, people talk about different things other than the obvious.

Ads seem to be placed throughout the threads? Many non-racing threads also seem to have a substantial number of views? Chopping out half the threads means chopping out half the income? I love conservative economic theory, no wonder our country is in such dire straights. The right just isn't happy unless they are telling everyone else what to do...lol. Hopefully the political posts will cease by themselves soon anyway...lol.

The people make the message board.
If complaining about posts makes them happy, so be it, but why have they not posted something about racing themselves?
Politics IS part of racing however.

Read to the end. It explains a lot!
A woman went to her doctor for advice. She told him that her husband
had developed a penchant for anal sex, and she was not sure that it was
such a good idea.
'Do you enjoy it?' the doctor asked.
'Actually, yes, I do.'
'Does it hurt you?' he asked.
'No. I rather like it.'
'Well, then,' the doctor continued, 'there's no reason that you shouldn't
practice anal sex, if that's what you like, so long as you take care not
to get pregnant.'
The woman was mystified. 'What? You can get pregnant from anal sex?'
Of course, where do you think politicians come from?

'Twas the night before elections And all through the town Tempers were flaring Emotions all up and down! I, in my bathrobe With a cat in my lap Had cut off the TV Tired of political crap. When all of a sudden There arose such a noise I peered out of my window Saw Obama and his boys They had come for my wallet They wanted my pay To give to the others Who had not worked a day! He snatched up my money And quick as a wink Jumped back on his bandwagon As I gagged from the stink He then rallied his henchmen Who were pulling his cart I could tell they were out To tear my country apart! ' On Fannie, on Freddie, On Biden and Ayers! On Acorn, On Pelosi' He screamed at the pairs! They took off for his cause And as he flew out of sight I heard him laugh at the nation Who wouldn't stand up and fight! So I leave you to think On this one final note- IF YOU DONT WANT SOCIALISM GET OUT AND VOTE!!!!

SOCIALISM.......is this all you can come up with in the waining moments of the sinking ship that is McCain's campaign. Nice to see a wannabe V.P. getting punk'd by a prank call. I could only imagine what she'd be like in the White House......actually I don't want to imagine that whatsoever!
Trophy Cup......Best race of the year hands down!

I would like to get back to the original subject/suggestion. That would result in deleting the last four posts.
