Why can't we get the Outlaws? I was wondering if anybody knew who the Big Nascar Driver is that could possibly come to Jackson?

I'd rather see a National ASCS show come to Jackson than the Outlaws.

Schrader and Herman do a lot of Modified racing at the dirt tracks. We saw them at CLS last summer.

Yeah, i know that a lot of people like the ASCS people because there the locals. I still think we should try to get in a Outlaws show too because I know a lot of the Outlaws drivers like the Jackson track. We should get both groups in!! HA!! No seriously!!!

I read on another board where Jon posted and he said NO outlaw show for the 2009 season, as "he they" where turned down. I have no further details other than what I read, so maybe Jon can answer your questions.

Who was turned down? The outlaws? or they turned Jackson down? Yeah, and years ago Jackson used to be as big as Knoxville. What happened? Just think we could of had the Nationals at Jackson. Most of the people here are 90% sprint car fans, you can tell by crowd wise.

Ya I am Only 23 years of age but I remember the days when the old grandstands were packed to the rafters and the pits were filled with Sprinters only and that was just a weekly show. The Nationals were SRO every night and the Names were Kinser,Swindell,Blaney,Wolfgang,Haudenschild,Doty along with the locals.Of course when the Outlaws sanctioned the Nationals some of the locals got ticked and went to Red Devil that weekend but there loss.Heard there was a comlaint that Billy Alley and Wayne Johnson and Brian Brown were there for the Nationals this year. Some things never change. But I will still support the Jackson Speedway like I have my entire life and just hope for better things to come like I do every year.

I guess I should have been abit more specific in my previous post, I read where Jon stated "we the Jackson speedway have been turned down for a 2009 WOO race date". I am 45 and have been going to Jackson for 30+ years and I can never remember the Jackson nationals being "as" big as Knoxville. Yes the VFW started a good thing in 1979 with the 1st annual nationals and the speedway had a good thing going throughtout the whole 80's but the speedway changed promotors and the nationals never progressed to the next level for some reason or another. You stated "Just think we could of had the Nationals at Jackson". HUH, what you talking about? Jackson Speedway does have an anuual nationals show!

One of the last years the VFW had the track, I do believe the crowd and car count was better in Jackson than it was in Knoxville for the nationals. Someone maybe can remember some specific #'s. At least we have a local track that is giving us Saturday night entertainment in the summer. Thanks Jon and all who help make it happen.

This week's Jackson County Pilot had an article on the speedway and Jon's plans for next year. Here's the link.

They have hornets up here at Kopellah and a couple other tracks. They're kind of entertaining but my biggest concern would be the speeds they could attain on a half mile. Those things aren't very big so even though they're not fast they can get airborne pretty easy if they get crossed up. They're home built race cars so I'd pay close attention to the roll cage, fuel cells, seats and belt mounting. I saw one hit the wall almost head on one night and it scared the sh*t out of me until I saw that the driver was alright.

I have always enjoyed the Jackson Nationals, and I am not putting the event down in any way, shape, or form in the following comments. I have seen some great racing over the years, in all classes, but we cannot compare the Jackson Nationals to the Knoxville Nationals. I am very sure, that Jackson never had more cars or a larger crowd. The last year that the VFW had the track was 1985. 1985 was Knoxville’s 25th Nationals. They had 111 cars check in. 1985 was Jackson’s 8th Nationals. Base on the information that I have, Jackson had 37 cars on Thursday and 45 cars on Friday. Many of the Thursday cars re-qualified on Friday. Sorry, but I don’t have the total on Saturday, but as a comparison the 1986 pre entry list has 55 410s on it. That entry list also included a very young Jeff Gordon. In 1986 the track was run by the Jackson Racing Association. And while select Outlaws had run the nationals since 1983, I believe that the only year that the World of Outlaw’s sanctioned the Jackson Nationals was 1988. The 10th year of the Nationals, and the last year of the Jackson Racing Association. This was also the last time the World of Outlaw’s ran at Jackson in the 20th century.

I believe you are wrong in your last couple sentances, as the WOO ran Jackson about 3 years ago under the SLS promotions.

Stockcar5 is correct. I also did not mention the other outlaw shows in the '80s, as my post was just about the Jackson Nationals.
