While I was suffering through the worst job of flagging I have ever seen at yesterday's Lakeport event, I learned that BCRA is planning on sanctioning a series for nonwing spec sprints in 2009. The series would be pavement only.

I am assuming a San Jose connection with the top 2 in the BCRA midget main, won by Nick Foster Jr. I am guessing he is the son of former San Jose Speedway driver, Nick Foster. 2nd was Scott Nail, who ran winged 360s at San Jose, as a rookie in sprints I think.

Ron, Scott Nail also actually dates back to Baylands competition.

They tried to run non wing spec sprints at Shasta on pavement in 2007. After three races with car counts of three to five cars they quit trying. I wonder if Lakeport will have better luck. Just because there are lots of spec sprints that does not mean that people want to race them on pavement.

It is not Lakeport trying to run pavement spec sprints, it is BCRA. so there would be some sort of traveling schedule.

Sorry, but I thought folks ran spec sprints in order to control their $$ outlay; a traveling pavement spec series would kind of eliminate (or at least minimize) any forms of cost control, since asphalt tires, travel costs, and the like would just be a way to spend more money.....But if you can afford it...

You nailed it right there, Sprinter 25, cost is a major factor for most teams in the Spec Sprint class. If we all wanted to spend more, we could race 360's or 410's.

Combine that w/ the great track choices we have to race: Petaluma, Chico, Placerville, Watsonville, Marysville and Antioch, why would anyone choose to add more costs by traveling and adding the weekly expense of asphalt tires?

Perhaps BCRA is looking at picking up the few NCMA drivers there are running pavement-think the best car count they had this season was 10 ...
