HENRY, KIERCE TO RUN FOR D’ANGELOS SPRINT CAR CASH
by Lee Elder

VENTURA, Calif. (Oct. 15, 2008) – Johnathon Henry is still a teenager, but he understands the value of a dollar.

If he didn’t before the start of the 2008 racing season, he does by now. Henry has won the first two races in the three-race D’Angelos Sprint Car Shootout and can sweep the rich, special season-within-a-season at Ventura Raceway Saturday.

The Shootout will double as the main event for Ventura’s Sprint Car class. Also on tap Saturday are the Senior Sprint division, two classes of Dwarf cars, the Sport Compact class and the Raceway’s youth divisions. The spectator gates open at 3 p.m. The youth heat races are slated for 3:30 and the adult heats start at 5:30.

Each leg of the Shootout pays $2,000 to the winner and the champion of the special points system wins an extra $500. Henry leads with 515 points. Kierce remains in striking distance with 430. Under Shootout rules, a driver can earn as many as 260 points in one event.

Henry lives in Stockton, is a high school senior. He has three wins overall in just seven starts at Ventura this season.

Kierce is the points leader in the Raceway’s regular season standings, with five wins and 4,085 points. One of the winningest drivers in Raceway history and rich in racing experience, Kierce is always a threat to win at Ventura.

More information on Ventura Raceway and the D’Angelos Sprint Car Shootout is available at www.venturaraceway.com.

Raceway notes: In the D’Angelos Sprint Car Shootout opener, Kierce won his heat race and finished second in the main event. But on Aug. 30, Kierce had to earn his spot in the feature by racing in the B Main. The B Main was tough that night. The field included the popular Troy Rutherford…The USAC Ford Focus Midget race that was rained out at Ventura on Oct. has been rescheduled for Oct. 25. That race will decide the California Dirt Championship…Alex Schutte, who drives a sprint car in the Kruseman driver development program, finished 23rd after crashing on lap 14 of the Formula Ford national championship race during the SCCA National Championship Runoffs at Heartland Park Topeka.
