FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NATIONAL STARS GARDNER, WHITT AND BOAT COME GUNNING FOR TONY JONES THIS SATURDAY AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY!

(OCTOBER 14, 2008, PERRIS, CA) The hottest Sprint Car driver in the nation, “The Open Wheel Cowboy“ Tony Jones, will have extra competition this Saturday night when a posse of USAC National Sprint Car stars will try to head Jones off at The PAS as he seeks a record tying fifth straight win. Also on the Perris Auto Speedway program, presented by Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply, will be the PASSCAR Modifieds. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 7:00 PM.

In addition to great racing presented by the Sprint Cars and Modifieds, Saturday will be Legends of Ascot Night and many of the top stars from days gone by will be on hand along with a lot of great racecars from yesteryear.

Dating back to August 23rd, Jones, 38, of Norco, California, has won the last four Lucas Oil USAC/CRA races at The PAS. This Saturday, the 2007 series champion will be attempting to become the first driver to win five straight USAC/CRA mains at a single track. Jones is currently tied with Concord, California’s Damion Gardner, who strung together four straight wins at Washington’s Skagit Speedway from 2004-2006.

In addition to the stars of the Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Series, Jones will have his hands full with a trio (at least a trio) of USAC National Sprint Car stars this Saturday. Heading the list of visitors will be Gardner, the driver who has evoked more emotion from the faithful PAS fans than any other. Nicknamed “The Demon,” he was a regular at the Riverside County clay oval from 2001 through 2006. His hard driving taking no prisoners style endeared him to many PAS fans, but on the flip side of the coin, it also evoked a constant chorus of booing from others in the grandstands. Gardner is currently ranked tenth in USAC National points.

In addition to Gardner, teenage stars Cole Whitt, of Alpine, California and Chad Boat of, Phoenix, Arizona, will also be in action on Saturday. Whitt is third in USAC National Sprint points while Boat is 13th. Whitt also happens to rank second in USAC National Midget points while Boat is 12th. Whitt, 17, will be steering one of the Glenn Crossno’s ITI Performance Vipers on Saturday. Boat, 16, will be in a car owned by his father Billy, who will be one of the honorees at the Legends of Ascot on Saturday afternoon.

Just when you thought the Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Series championship was all wrapped up, thing’s tightened considerably at the last race two weeks ago. Heading into that event, Temecula, California’s Mike Spencer held a commanding 109 point lead over Yorba Linda, California’s Blake Miller in the championship standings. However, Miller finished second to Jones in the main event while Spencer was involved in a tangle early in the race and finished 20th. Miller, who goes by the nickname “The Bullet,” picked up 45 points on Spencer and is now only 63 out of the lead.

Riverside’s Johnny Lathrop and Hemet’s Kevin Busher will slug it our for the point lead in the PASSCAR Modifieds on Saturday. Lathrop leads Busher by a single point heading into Saturday’s race. They will fight for the top spot in a 20-lap main on Saturday.

Saturday’s “Dirt Octoberfest” will include qualifying, four ten lap heat races, a 12-lap B main event and a no punches pulled 30-Lap A main event for the Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars. The Modifieds will contest heats and a 20-lap main event. And, for the kids, there will be a Big Wheel heat race during one of the breaks in the action and, of course, the popular PAS Dance Contest at intermission.

Advance tickets for Saturday’s Lucas Oil USAC/CRA race and night of family fun are available now by calling (800) 595-4849 or (951) 940-0134. You can also order tickets on the Internet at tix.com or perrisautospeedway.com.
