I first saw AC/DC on July 28, 1979 on a bill that also consisted of Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, Journey and Thin Lizzy for about $10. Details here ("1970’s Outdoor Rock Concerts/Festivals: How Did I Survive?") :  http://www.doclehman.wordpress.com

PCR FAN2, wish I could have seen that gig!

Ever see Skyhooks? Never saw them, don't think they ever toured the USA, but bought a couple import LPs of them back in the 70's ('You Just Like Me Cuz I'm Good In Bed' is a classic!).

I know what you mean. Going back even before that, In the 60's and early 70's I saw just about every act that came along. Beatles, Elvis, Stones, EB and the Animals, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Leslie Gore, Neil Diamond, John Denver, Tina, Cher, and all the rest. Never paid more than $18. I can't believe what they are getting now. Amazing. For my money I just got my tickets for my annual concert in Des Moines, "Trans-Siberian Orchestra". Main Floor, 14 rows back from the stage. Greatest Show going. Tickets only $55.50 each. I would gladly pay twice that much and keep going every Christmas.

My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss
that ol' gal.

Dang Darbo, Gore, Cher and Neil Diamond with an orchestra being today's answer, Yikes! I remember seeing Zappa, Alice Cooper (pre snake and phony act) Sly and his family plus many others at a club up here and also never paid more than $15. With an adjusted rate for inflation over almost 40 years it might be close to some of today's acts tho', c'est la vie. Take It Easy....

Hey Doc, I was at that show too! World Series of Rock at the stadium in Cleveland. I don`t remember seeing you there! Hehe. I remember when we finaly made it home to Warren , Pa. Our parents were worried sick because it was all over the news that three people died at that show! I think that put an end to the World Series Concerts!

Thanks for the heads up about the ticket prices, My two boys and I had the same idea to see them together, but man that`s a lotta money!!!!

BTW Doc.... Do you remember the band CLEVELAND, or Mokie Cole, Paul Pope?

mesprint29, that's funny, I didn't see you there either! Or did I? Of course, I was 100 pounds lighter and had HAIR!!!!!

I remember Cleveland, saw Molkie Cole numerous times around Akron/Kent. Do you remember MF Rattlesnake? Love Affair? Damage? Hammer Damage? Breathless? So many good local/regional bands in the 70's.

Check out my blog, I have entries on the Akron Civic Theatre, Coliseum, Chippewa Lake, etc....

They had World Series of Rock concerts in 1980. I was at the one on July 19, 1980 with Bob Seger headlining with J. Geils Band, Def Leppard & Eddie Money.

Glad you survived, too!

Since you are from the Akron area you must know of the Rubber City Rebels. Are those guys still around? I saw them at the old Oasis Ballroom in Sacramento in the late 70's or early 80's. Great show. Only one studio album and then they were gone. Too bad.

I bought the "No Bull" DVD at Walmart for $10 and if I'm really desparate I'll pick up my acoustic guitar and strum out a few bars of one of their tunes. wink

One of my fellow racing photographers plays in a band that covers southern rock classics. They played on the same billing with national acts at the outdoor festivals. Going out to see them and other local bands is the best music value around. A lot of the bar bands have great talent but never got the breaks.

I'm a child of the 60's too Doc and I agree, Julie Newmar looked good at any angle. wink

I got on Ticketmaster last Saturday when the second set of tour dates went on sale with the goal of getting tickets for the January 5th show in Cleveland.

Not only did I get tickets...I GOT FLOOR SEATS!!!! ($92 each...I bought four of them).

Intresting is that they were e-tickets...you don't get paper tickets until you show up at the ticket window with credit card and I.D.

I'm so stoked to see this show. I love AC/DC but I've never seen them live.

And for you NW Ohio Hosers, coming up on November 15th at the Fremont, Ohio Eagles, "Down Under Thunder", featuring the sounds of AC/DC will be playing the first annual "F.A.S.T. Fest" to benefit "A Checkered Flag Christmas" and "Racers Racing for the Cure". Two other bands will play that night too. COME OUT AND ROCK OUT!!!

Stardog, I remember the Rubber City Rebels, saw them live numerous times and had the first LP. They still do occasional gigs on the west coast. Check out: http://www.rubbercityrebels.com/

They used to occasionally advertise in one of the music magazines I published back in the 70's.

Stan: I am happy you agree! Julie Newmar, circa 1966......hmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Back in the early 70's there was a Summertime concert series on the campus of Southern IL University at Edwardsville, IL called the Mississippi River Festival outdoors in a natural amphitheater on a hillside/valley. They built a stage at the bottom of the hillside's natural "bowl" and there was a very large tent over the reserved seating with the side of the tent facing the hillside raised so everyone sitting on the grass (and hitting on the grass - hey it was the early 70's) had a clear view of the stage. Tickets were $3.00 at first and I think had raised to like $7.00 when the series ended in 1980 due to mismanagement.

Concerts I recall going to for $3.00 or so include The Who and Wishbone Ash (one phenomenal concert), Jefferson Starship and Flo and Eddie, The Guess Who, Kansas and Aerosmith, Todd Rundgren's Utopia, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Harry Chapin, Rare Earth and Billy Preston, The Grateful Dead, America, The Eagles (I think the largest crowd ever at MRF at about 40,000 or so), Johnny and Edgar Winter, Bob Dylan, Arlo Guthrie, Chicago and Blood Sweat and Tears, Jim Croce, Loggins and Messina and Jackson Browne, REO Speedwagon and Marshall Tucker, Seals and Crofts, James Taylor, Don McLean, and Dave Mason to name just a few... damn I had some waaaayyy too much fun times at those concerts. wink

BTW - the first concert I ever went to was Grand Funk and Bloodrock at Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis for $5.00 .... my how the times (and concert ticket prices have changed).

For more info on MRF there's an overview at the official SIU-E tribute site with some photos here or Google it for some other un-official memories.
