Seeking information on Bobby Ward (sprint car driver from Conway AR). Is there a website that lists details of his life & accomplishments? Does anyone know or remember him? My recollections are that he was a "short track specialist". I think I saw him race in Topeka, KS or Lincoln, NE (not sure which). I guess I'm in one of my nostalgic moods for the "good old days".

PLJ7236, If I'm not mistaken there is (or recently was) a display covering Bobby Ward's career in the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum in Knoxville, Iowa. You may want to contact Thomas Schmeh (Curator) at the Museum.

Duane,
This wont help you much but if you click around at the following link you will end up finding some oldie pictures of Bobby Ward. No stats/info though. He would have been the same era as Alvin Gatlin ,Hoyette Hodnette,Johnny Suggs,Sam Swindell, Hooker Hood, Bubby Jones racing mostly WM,AR and the Midsouth.

You may get a kick out of this program Duane. I posted it a while back. Didn't know if you seen it? I thought it was kind of a cool find. Step into the wayback machine,,

PLJ7236,
Forgot to mention. I (believe) Bobby Ward still lives in Clinton Ar, which is close to Fairfield Bay AR.( Midstate), Not 100% sure about that, though. I've been out of the loop Someone who would know for sure would be Ray Bugg, Luka, MS. The Buggman has been racing supers/ sprint cars for 50 + years and still going!
Take Care,
Barry

Still lives in Conway. I'm sure if you pick up the phone you can find a number. Usually see him at the Chili Bowl and the Hall of Fame weekend at Knoxville. One of the nicest gentleman you will ever meet and the Mee2 was a bitching race car.

Just this past week, Bobby and Pat moved back to the Conway area (Greenbrier actually) after living in Heber Springs for several years. He retired in '74 after racing 21 years (too soon). His ph # is the same as that in Heber Springs and can be found on www.anywho.com . Bobby won 369 feature races including the Southwestern Supermodified Championships in Amarillo (twice), the Jayhawk Nationals, and two West Memphis titles just to name a few accomplishments. As said, he is normally at the Chili Bowl and SCHoF Induction. He was a great one. Hope this helps.

Hey Maxspeed99,
Just thought of something . Is Bobby Ward related to Buford or Mike?...Surely gotta be ,,somehow??/Everyone in racing is married to someone's sister or brother or uncle..it seems?..

I can say that with Mike it is a definite NO. Mike and Bobby are not related. I am pretty sure the case is the same with Buford but not 100% sure.

As I remember it this poster represents one of the darker days in racing history.
I think they managed to kill several - two or three - people at that show.

I am trying to figure out how to post a photo of Bobby Ward from the "Old Timers" gathering at West Memphis Aug. 2005. I hope this works.
It was always so special and thrilling when Bobby Ward and "Mee2" would show up at the Old Devil's Bowl in Dallas in the middle to late '60's.

Speedwrench,
That event would have been the following year ( after this program date), in '70. There were two drivers killed as well as a track worker on the 35th lap of the scheduled 100 lapper. This was the last time the event was held by Aggie, due to fairboard not wanting to take the same chance again. J. Blundy was leading at the time the race was stopped with I believe Johnny Anderson running second. Jerry won it all three years held. '68,'69'70. It appears that Barney Fife came out from Mayberry for the race,if you look in the background over Aggie's shoulder,,,
Carol, See if you can conger up getting the Bobby Ward pics upped. I'd like to see 'em.

Here's a couple of Bobby Ward pix from the Speedbowl Valley Raceway in Amarillo. I'm new to this forum so, if it's an offense to post these (from another site) let me know.

The photo should be a JPG for best results, I have not had a whole lot of luck with cut and paste.
If you have problems, email me the pic at [email protected] and I will pos it for you.

Thanks for posting the Bobby Ward pics. Any ideas on the year(s)?. Who would have owned these cars, built by??...I like the Lady in the second picture. She looks pretty elegant,,even black gloves. Not many like her around these days! Ya wouldn't wanna get a match too close to that hair. I bet enough hair spray on that to blowup two counties!!!,,, ..
Both those cars are pretty sleek look'n cars for their day.

Thanks for getting me straightened out on the timing of these events.
This getting older is not all it's cracked up to be .

Thanks sst91 for those neat old photos of Bobby Ward and Mee 2. I would guess the red & white Mee 2 with the trophy girl to be from the late 50's to early 60's. Don't you love those fancy trailers in the background of the first photo. That's when you put your money in your car - not your trailer... obviously. By the way - I would have given the other site credit. Let me guess... www.racingfromthepast.com
The photo at the Legends' Reunion (not Old Timers - sorry for the difference) comes through on my computer from hoseheads. If it doesn't come through otherwise let me know.
I wish I knew who took that photo... or even where I got it, but my guess is www.midsouthracing.com.

Carol 14, the photos came from Speedbowl Valley Raceway's (Amarillo, TX) Website. One of the photos had the year'67. I talked to Johnny Suggs about these cars recently. I believe the black car was home made and, the white/red was a J&J (may have been known as a Hill car in those days).
Thanks to all for bringing up these racers from days gone by.
