Josh Schneiderman Captures Herb Barlow Memorial!

(Bill W) October 3, 2008 - West Burlington, Iowa's Josh Schneiderman snagged his second feature event of the season with the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders Friday night, October 3, at the Morgan County Speedway in Jacksonville, Illinois. The win was also Josh's second career victory with the Sprint Invaders. His first was July 5 at the West Liberty Raceway in Iowa.

The Herb Barlow Memorial saw a field of 24 sprint cars gathered for bonus money and prizes on the line. The main event got off to a slow start, as before a lap could be completed, Matt Harms got sideways in turn four, collecting Tim Montgomery. Both were done for the night.

2007 Knoxville Raceway track champion appeared to have the field covered early on in the 25-lap feature event. He jumped from his second row starting spot into the lead by turn one on the first lap, and began to pull away. Only one lap was in the books, when Matt Rogerson clipped an infield tire. The incident also involved Ryan Jamison, who restarted at the tail.

Brown took off on the restart with Dustin Selvage in tow. Schneiderman restarted fifth, and quickly worked over Bobby Mincer and points leader, John Schulz, to move into third. Brown and Selvage worked the cushion on the banked 1/4 mile. There was little room for error in turns three and four, and both clipped the wall. On lap ten, Selvage's right rear had had enough and came to a stop. As he coasted around under caution, Brown succumbed to the same gremlin.

Schneiderman assumed the lead ahead of Mincer, Jerrod Hull and Schulz. It was no contest, as Josh led the rest of the way. "I hit it (turn four wall) one lap before Selvage came to a stop," said Josh. "After that, I tiptoed through three and four a bit, entering in the middle and kicking off the high side of four."

"We really needed this win," he continued. "All the credit goes to the crew for this one. I want to thank everyone who came out, and the Herb Barlow family for rounding up all these prizes."

Mincer held off the late charges of Hull for second at the checkers. "Our biggest problem has been our terrible draw at the start of the night," said the leading hard-charger award winner this year. "I saw (Hull's) nose coming out of turn four a couple of times, and I just held my line. I knew if I kept my momentum and stayed smooth, I'd be alright."

Hull was driving a new Maxim chassis for the first time. "We can't complain for the first time out," he said. "We had some trouble in the heat that kept us out of the dash. You couldn't run the bottom tonight for nothing. We were trying to drive through the middle and make sure we weren't following anybody."

Schulz finished fourth, while Donnie Steward brought his 305 powerplant from 17th to fifth to earn hard-charger honors and the CAMFAB 305 bonus. Korey Weyant charged from 18th to sixth, with Joey Moughan, Jack Dover, Jamison and Ben Wagoner rounding out the top ten.

An extra $100 went to heat winners, Schneiderman, Brown and Selvage. Selvage also picked up the win in the Shottenkirk Toyota of Quincy Shake-up Dash, worth another bonus of $400 and a left rear tire. A myriad of other bonuses included a Carhartt jacket and plaque for Schneiderman's feature win, and a well funded dash for all competitors.

Dover won the B main after rear-end troubles sidelined him in the heat. The ASCS-Midwest champion rallied from the back row, thrilling the gathered crowd.

The Sprint Invaders will put the lid on their season Saturday night, October 4 at the 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa.

Didnt make it out for the free cold one after the feature. Didnt want to sit thru the cabs. Pretty good race, and what about the drive to 5th in a 305 from Steward.

Lots of wall bangers in turns 3-4,and even a few on 1-2. Surprised there werent more flat tires,or bent wheels/axles!
