57TH HUT HUNDRED ON TAP SATURDAY AT THE ACTION TRACK
SEPTEMBER 29, 2008--- The 57th running of the First National Bank ?Hut Hundred? is on tap Saturday at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track and the 100-lap race is scheduled to start 33 cars, three abreast on the exciting 1/2-mile dirt oval.
Tracy Hines of New Castle, Ind. will try to continue his quest to become USAC?s fifth ?Triple Crown Champion? as he leads the Mopar USAC National Midget Series standings. Hines has already won USAC?s Silver Crown and National Sprint titles and needs the Midget crown to join drivers Tony Stewart, Pancho Carter, Dave Darland and J.J. Yeley as the only ones to earn all three championships in a career.
Hines, whose only Midget win at Terre Haute came in a 2001 Regional event, is a former winner of the Hut Hundred, but that was also in 2001 when the race was run at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Ind! Hines was also second to Jason Leffler in 1997 and Dave Darland in 1999 and third behind Donnie Beechler and Tony Elliott in 1998.
Former race winners Darren Hagen (2006), Bobby East (2004), Darland (1999 and 2003), Mike Hess (2002) and Jason Leffler (1997) are expected to be among Hines? challengers Saturday.
Hines, who teams with two-time USAC National Sprint Champion Levi Jones on the Tony Stewart Team, has a 78-point lead over Cole Whitt, with only 66 available Saturday.

The following information, posted above, is incorrect.
Tracy Hines of New Castle, Ind. will try to continue his quest to become USAC?s fifth ?Triple Crown Champion? as he leads the Mopar USAC National Midget Series standings. Hines has already won USAC?s Silver Crown and National Sprint titles..
Hines trails new USAC National Sprint Car series leader Jerry Coons Jr. by 105 points going into the final five races on the west coast. Levi Jones trails Coons by only 2 points with the Oval Nationals @ Perris being the national series' next stop. It appears doubtful, though not out of the question, that Hines can catch either Coorns Jr. or Jones. Hines also trails Alpine, California's Cole Whitt by 46 points. Another USAC Triple Crown winner? I wouldn't bet on it.

They are not talking in the same year. T Hines (FMA) can win the trple crown this year by winning the midget championship.
Hope this makes sense.

It does, but I think some of us kind of look at a true Triple Crown as winning all three in the same year even though winning the championship in all three division's in different years counts.

Yes it does now that you explained the way they (USAC?) looks at things. I was thinking triple crown like in horse racing or baseball. I don't know if I would consider it to be a true triple crown though.

You are right, not a true triple crown, but a triple crown none the less.
True Triple Crown winners...... Tony Stewart, JJ Yeley
Triple Crown winners..... Pancho Carter, Dave Darland.

Sorry guys but it's Mickey Thomson..
"Mickey Thompson’s greatest claim to fame was being the first man to break the 400-miles-per-hour speed barrier on the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1960. But the Fastest Man Alive represented far more than a record to those who admired and followed him. He was a shade-tree mechanic, a can-opener engineer with barely a high-school education, a wild-eyed boy without a buck, a hot rodder who nonetheless beat the pants off all those rich British playboys and smug, factory-bankrolled R & D guys in Detroit. His accomplishments with his famed, backyard-built, four-engine Challenger I proved that talent and determination could go wheel-to-wheel with “proper” training and almighty dollars. President Kennedy didn’t invite him to the White House just because he managed to hit 406.6 mph. Thompson was the guy who single-handedly laid to rest the hot rodder’s ID media image, who made them respectable."

Guys, my calling Hines FMA is more of an ego thing. I have been calling Hines this since the mid eighties. I even remember Klepper calling him that as well as T-Bag.
All in good fun.

Re: Yeley to L-burg!
I was told JJ will drive the Triple Crown Racing #1 Dupont "Hot Hues", Husqvarna, IR, Hoosier Sprint Car at Lawrenceburg Speedway. Instead of running a midget at Terre Haute.
