The pavement drivers put on a very good race and here is hoping that USAC can stage a few additional races at Irwindale for next year. Yes, I did say Irwindale and not just on Thanksgiving Day.

Geez, talk about a series that is a red-headed stepchild. For the life of me I have no idea why they thought it would be a good idea to allow motors that are not legal in any other series anywhere (WS Sprints are a 360 series that allow aluminum blocks). If they are interested in having a feeder series that might have more than 10 cars, why not make it a standard 410 series so those guys can go run with the USAC National guys or the CRA guys can drop their motors into a pavement car and go. I'm not discussing the merits of pavement/dirt from the standpoint of a fan sitting in the grandstands but from the perspective of a young driver that might like to get sprint pavement experience before moving on to bigger and better things.

This series has always had me scratching my head as to why they ever went with the rule package they did.

Good post Rich............Funny you bring that up now. I know for a fact that issue or suggestion was presented to USAC a week or so ago by some very prominate west coast teams. There are some CRA teams that would go pavement racing if the 410 were allowed. I think you might see a change. In our lifetime may be another story.........................Jim Cardey

Rich -

Those were my exact thoughts 9 years ago when USAC put the Western Pavement series together...there are probably several dozen, if not more, aluminum 410's that could easily be put into a pavement car and then run the pavement series.

In my opinion, this would have boosted car counts when the series began and probably led to increased car counts today...

The Western group ran a combimed show with the National cars at PPIR five uears ago and were outmotored by the 410's....
