Manzanita Gears Up for ASCS Arizona Fall Classic This Saturday Night!

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (September 22, 2008) – Sprint Car fans in the state of Arizona get the best of both worlds this Saturday night, as Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix plays host to the ASCS Arizona Fall Classic which features a pair of separate American Sprint Car Series Regional tours.

Both the wingless Discount Tire Co. ASCS Canyon Region and the winged ASCS Southwest Region will be in action over the course of the night at the storied Manzanita facility.

The wingless forces of the ASCS Canyon Region will be slinging the clay on the 1/3-mile, while the winged troops of the ASCS Southwest Region will blaze around the big ½-mile clay oval.

In the series' respective championship points races, Jeremy Sherman's Canyon Region lead entering the ASCS Fall Classic is as sturdy as Rick Ziehl's Southwest lead is tenuous.

Riding a winning streak of four in a row and reaching victory lane in eight of the last nine events, Sherman has extended his Canyon Region points lead to 126 points over Charles Davis, Jr. Mike Martin holds a four-point edge over R.J. Johnson in the battle for third, with Nathan High rounding out the current top five.

In the inaugural ASCS Southwest Region chase, Las Cruces, NM, shoe Ziehl enters the ASCS Arizona Fall Classic with a scant two-point edge over El Paso's Shawn Sander. Tucson teen rookie Cody Cambensy rides into Saturday's action ranked third in points, with Ronnie Clark and Ben Gregg rounding out the current top five.

Saturday's ASCS Arizona Fall Classic at Manzanita Speedway is set to go green at 7:30 p.m.

Manzanita Speedway is located in Phoenix, AZ, off I-10 Exit 141, then four miles south on 35th Avenue to West Broadway. For more information, contact the track at 602-276-7575.

The Discount Tire Co. ASCS Canyon Region brings the best in non-wing Sprint Car racing to Arizona with a full slate of 27 nights of racing in 2008. In addition to events atop both the ½-mile and 1/3-mile ovals at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, the series will also be in action at Tucson's USA Race Park and Casa Grande's Central Arizona Raceway over the course of the season.

The ASCS Southwest Region is slated for 13 nights of winged Sprint Car racing throughout Arizona in 2008. In addition to events at Tucson's USA Race Park, the series will also be in action at Show Low's Thunder Speedway and Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix.

The nation's most prominent Sprint Car sanctioning body with a dozen different Regions throughout the United States in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, the American Sprint Car Series' (ASCS) 17th year of activity will include approximately 250 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout 28 different states and Canada.
