I attent close to all the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invader shows and while Im happy that this Sat will be a tribute to the well deserving late Kevin Doty and I will be there. It brings back up in my mind a problem I felt happened.... I am just curious as to why a few weeks ago a former SIA member passed away in a motorcycle accident, Brian Hetrick and although 34raceway had a night to honor him on there own.( Heard it was a nice event Im sure his family appriciated it), there was never a word mentioned in his honor at the next SIA race at Colombus Junction or for that matter anything mentioned on there website or anything else. A little note to the family or even a moment of silence at the next race would have shown alot more respect than nothing at all. I was very disaapointed in the association for not doing any of those things. Just felt like speaking my peace thanks!!!

I agree with you, Brian was a big part of the invaders. Although he in recent years mostly raced 305s at 34 he still is missed by the invader family and the association should have done something for him and his family.

Brian Hetrick Passes

The Sprint Invaders would like to extend their heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the family of Brian Hetrick on his untimely passing. Brian was active with the Sprint Invaders from the series inception, and always carried himself in a way that was an example to anyone that came in contact with the organization.

The above copy came from the Sprint Invader web site. It is on the page promoting the race at Columbus Junction. Go to sprintinvaders and search Brian's name.

Ok so I was wrong there was a "little something" mentioned but I guess I believe that more could have been done than a tiny little mention of him and that photo seems to me to be just a photo that would have been posted rather he had passed on or not due to him winning that dash in an Invader race 2 days before he passed on. I could name numberous other race tracks and websites and other racing related people that did way more than that and he was a past member of the Invaders. I have discussed this with numberous people and we all strongly feel it was Disrespectful of the SIA to not say anything at all at a race since then. I am not asking that it be dwelled on all night but a moment of silence or the missing man could have been done out of respect for a fellow racer!!!

I think the Hetrick family knows how much we miss and cared for Brian. That's what is important to us. We have the utmost respect for the family and their wishes. We have plans to Honor Brian at the season championship at 34 raceway. We felt this was a great way for us to show our respect for their fallen champion. Honouring him at a track that didn't know him didn't seem to make much sense. Brian had plans to return to SIA next season and we were very excited to have him back. I know for a fact that he was so proud to be the track champion and was looking forward to competing in a 360 car again next year. Brian was more than a fellow racer. He was and always will be a part of the Sprint Invader Family. I hope this helps you understand how we feel.

I gues I just am not going to understand how the SIA feels regardless of what you say. To Chris McGraw I know that as an individual you have done many things to remember Brian but as for the actual association there is no excuses for their lack of respect. I was at the race that he "wasnt known" and had anyone payed attention there were TONS of people with new, old, ANY that people had Brian Hetrick shirts on so a mention would have affected at least half the fan crowd let alone the racers and their families. I must say I clearly remember another SIA drivers crew man passing on last year and there being a missing man formation done for him and many other things mentioned of him all evening long and he was not one of your drivers. To me there are no excuses or exceptions for not doing more for Brian Hetrick.

Did you miss the fact that Chris said there will be a tribute at the finale at 34 on October 4?

Well I apologize bjones if we did not live up to your expectations. ( not being sarcastic) We will try to do better in the future. I'm sure it's to little to late to satisfy you but I would like to announce that the previous sponsor of the driver of the year award at our banquet has emailed me and agrees that this year it should be the Brian Hetrick Driver of the year award. Thanks Bill and Susan. Thank you for supporting The Invaders.  Chris McGraw
