Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders - Tribute to Kevin Doty
(Bill W) After being washed out of three races by the prelude of Hurricane Ike in Illinois last weekend, the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders will try it again this Saturday night at the Quad City Raceway in East Moline, Illinois. John Schulz will take a nine point lead over Bobby Mincer into Saturday's event that will pay tribute to the late great Kevin Doty!
The action on the high-banked ¼ mile should be intense. Last year it was defending Sprint Invaders champion Kaley Gharst who ended up in victory lane. Gharst took the lead from Josh Schneiderman on lap 10, and went on to record his sixth of seven 2007 Sprint Invaders wins. Matt Sutton, Schneiderman, Jerrod Hull and Matt Rogerson followed him across the stripe.
Schneiderman and Rogerson join Schulz and Mincer atop the 2008 standings, with a mere 29 points separating the quartet. Ryan Jamison, Korey Weyant, Matt Harms, Jimmy Davies, Nick Eastin and Jordan Goldesberry round out the top ten in points heading into East Moline!
To get to the Quad City Raceway, take I-80 to Exit 7 (Illinois), then go 0.9 mile west, turn right, then travel 4.2 miles west on Colona Road. Turn east on Archer St. (at the Rock Island County Fairgrounds). Pits open at 3:00, with grandstands opening at 4:30. Hot laps are slated for 5:30. Admission is $15 for adults, $5 for kids 6-12, with 5 and under free.
