CRA SPRINTS RETURN TO PERRIS SEPTEMBER 27; JONES WINS AGAIN WITH FINAL-LAP DRAMATICS!
SEPTEMBER 15, 2008 --- Mike Spencer continues to ride the point wave in the Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Car series, taking a 120-point lead over Blake Miller into the September 27 race at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway. Spencer finished third in Saturday night’s Perris thriller, won by Tony Jones.
Jones, of Norco, Calif., caught Rip Williams exiting turn four and beat him to the checkered flag in Saturday’s 30-lapper in his La Villa Restaurant/Ferreira Dairy DRC/JD Performance machine. Williams took second ahead of Spencer, Josh Ford and David Cardey.
Greg Bragg led the first three laps and Nic Faas led the next 23 before encountering mechanical problems. Williams then led three laps before yielding to Jones at the finish.
Miller was forced to “borrow” Tyler Brown’s car for the 30-lap feature after qualifying second-fastest in his original car. He then raced to 10th place, emerging second in the standings as a result.
