2-TIME “4-CROWN” CHAMP HINES EYES ELDORA AFTER WINNING ANDERSON’S 100-LAPPER; O.R.P. RAINED OUT
SEPTEMBER 15, 2008 --- Two-time “4-Crown Nationals” Champion Tracy Hines of New Castle, Ind. is looking forward to this Saturday’s 28th classic at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio after winning last Saturday night’s 100-lap race at Anderson, Ind.
Hines took the lead on lap 88 at Anderson Speedway and paced the final 13 laps in his Tony Stewart Racing Chevy/Bass Pro Shops Beast/Chevy. Mike Murgoitio led the first 87 laps before being sidelined by mechanical problems. Dakoda Armstrong finished second ahead of Brian Olson, fast qualifier Darren Hagen and Kody Swanson.
Hines won the “4-Crown” in 1996 and 2006 but sat out last year’s race recuperating from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident early in 2007. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. won last year’s race and is expected to defend his win Saturday.
Hines currently leads Cole Whitt by 111 points in the Mopar National Midget standings, hopeful of concluding his drive to USAC’s “Triple Crown.” Tracy won the USAC Silver Crown title in 2000 and the National Sprint title in 2002.
Former “4-Crown” Midget Champ J.J. Yeley (2001) is also in Saturday’s field and should be among pre-race favorites.
Rain forced cancellation of Friday’s scheduled Mopar National Midget race at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis, Ind.
