ARIZONA, NORTH CAROLINA, INDIANA & CALIFORNIA HOST FOCUS ACTIVITY THIS WEEK; SAVAGE #1 AT SLC, POSEY EMERGES WITH UTAH TITLE
SEPTEMBER 15, 2008 --- USAC Ford Focus racing occurs on four fronts this week as Arizona, North Carolina, Indiana and California all witness races.
Ian Miille leads the California Pavement series to Saturday’s race at Havasu 95 Speedway in Lake Havasu City, Nevada, while Bradley Riethmeyer leads the Carolina Series to Saturday’s race at Concord (N.C.) Motorsports Park. Kyle Hamilton is atop the Midwest and Indiana standings entering Saturday’s race at Anderson (Ind.) Speedway and Charlie Butcher is the leader in the Junior Focuses, which compete Saturday at Ventura (Calif.) Raceway.
Tim Savage of Herriman, Utah, USAC’s 2007 Utah Developmental Ford Focus Champ, returned to victory lane in Saturday night’s series finale at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, but Kipp Posey of Lehi, Utah shared the spotlight in the post-race ceremonies.
Posey emerged with the 2008 Utah championship after finishing third in Saturday night’s race, won by Savage. Billy Cox finished second ahead of Posey, with Bob Brewer and James Powell rounding out the “top-five.” Posey was the fastest qualifier.
J.R. Williams and Powell led early laps before Savage took over on lap seven and led the rest of the way to win the 25-lapper.
