Todd Staley and the USMTS bunch have put together another really good deal for Mods at this year's version of the Featherlite Fall Jamboree held again at Deer Creek Speedway in southern Minnesota (Spring Valley) and it starts this Wednesday with practice. It may even be worth the long tow for some Southern teams even with the "Ike-Hike" in gas prices.
While the gouging is in full swing on the gas side around here, diesel was still $3.99 in Minden today. Maybe there's a bigger stock pile of diesel supply -- I don't know, it's all smoke and mirrors to me anyway but if diesel doesn't go through the roof, then this is as good a paying Modified show as any I've heard of, anywhere this year!
Let's start with entry fee: $300 to race all 3 nights. BUT, you're guaranteed $350 back if you race all 3 nights. $200 in tow money plus an additional $150 IF you failed to qualify for all of the A mains or Saturday's non-qualifier feature.
Also, want a chance to run an exhibition race against Kevin Harvick in a Modified this Wednesday night? Come to Wednesday's practice then. If you are a Southern Series regular, you could be one of two So. Series names drawn to be included in this race. 3 more names will be drawn from the cars that practice on Wednesday and a few more from other sources. Every car gets $10 per lap completed in the exhibition and it will be announced by Fox's Larry McReynolds.
Come Thursday though, it's time for the serious business. How about 30 cars start the A (28 qualify and 2 USMTS provisionals) for $2000 to win and $200 to start! That's just night one!
Friday, 30 more go for $4000 to win and $300 to start! That's excellent! But the next night is just over-the-top!
There will be a non-qualifiers race for 30 cars that do not make Saturday's A-main but ran all 3 nights. This race pays better than Thursday night's A-main! Same $2000 to win but $300 to start for 30 cars!!!
Then Saturday night's headline event will pay $6000 to win and $700 just to start. Be sure and check out the great paydowns in all of these races in the flyer below. Saturday's A pays $2000 for 6th and $1000 for 12th!!! The 3 nights combined? Possible $12,000 to win and make all 3 As and it's a sweet $1200 just to start them! 4 great nights (including practice night with the NASCAR guy), all at one great facilty -- Deer Creek Speedway -- too!
Now if any of you Southern guys from Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee and Missouri read this and you decide to go because of it, be sure and tell Todd, "Hook's" sent you. Also call me at 318-894-8343 or 318-294-0282 and I'll let you in on another incentive. If your from Oklahoma and decided to go because of this, then tell Todd, David sent you! Remember this is just for guys who have not pre-entered nor for ones that told Todd that they'd be there.
I know David Horner and Chris Brown from the Houston area have pre-entered but they have homes and businesses down there that I'm sure were affected by Ike and may not get to go. Good luck to any of the rest of you Southern Modified guys that do get to travel to the "Great White North"! Hope you bring back some of that Northern Green!

Here's the list of pre-entered Okies:
12 - Jason Hughes -- Westville, OK
21b - Brandon Kenny -- Woodward, OK
4r - Dereck Ramirez -- Woodward, OK
20r - Brian Rowland -- Woodward, OK
5t - Randy Timms -- Oklahoma City, OK
02 - Tommy Weder Jr. -- Woodward, OK
On the fuel news,
Gas going up BUT Diesel dropping?!
Today the Pilot at exit 33, I-20 had gas at 3.79 -- up 20 cents since Ike but diesel was 3.89 -- down 10 cents!
Got an email that said that Jared Landers was going. Also, one of south Louisiana's most promising young racers, Kevin Dupont was considering it as well. That's like 1100 miles and almost 18 hours to get there. Won't do it? Maybe not, but they've pulled to a big UMP Mod show before at Eldora -- about the same distance & time -- for a lot less purse!
