Quote..."Reduce RR width, get rid of the "HOOSIER" Spec tire rule and allow competition to help drive tire prices down. Smaller wing. Basically anything to unhook the cars and make horsepower less of an issue."

All manufacturers have an opportunity to get their tire spec'd into any series that is running spec tires. Hoosier seems to be the biggest choice and some of that may be due to their sheer volume ability to produce race tires, but they would not be the spec tire without going out there and selling their tire to these groups.

A smaller wing will still cost the same, and despite the claims, will NOT eliminate or lessen the need for as much HP as the engine rules will allow. If it were even remotely true, then I should be able to take my 360 to my local Indiana bullrings and run right with the non-wing likes of Stanbrough, Cottle, Darland, Jones, etc. That won't happen either. Even on a little ring like Kokomo, HP is still king.

But all this is getting away from the intent of this thread and class. Find a common set of 305 sprint rules and stick with them. If the rules are set, teched, and enforced, it does lessen the need to search for ways to find elusive HP, as well as increase car counts because the little guy who makes a 12 car field into a 16 car field will feel as though they at least have even ground rule-wise to run on.

Look at how many guys have been DQ'd at ASCS races this year since they figured out a better way to tech the heads. The rules never changed, they just came up with a way to better check for alterations without removal of the head. Is it foolproof? Nah, but its better. And its funny how much slower a few guys are this year as opposed to years past.

I guess I would say...get together as a group of groups and try to hammer out a common ground, then enforce it. Then you stand a better chance of pulling cars for special races like the one that has started all this because the car they use is legal and you won't lose guys who wanted to come but won't show because of silly concessions or a set of rules that don't match.

HERE your answer to the RR tire deal,

we run limited sprints at two local tracks, with big wings, spec valve springs, 1-7/8 restrictors, 1600 lbs, Tire Rule = American Racer D3B(old IMCA sprint tire ) 13.5 wide, 60 compound, stiffer side walls, its the best thing to happen and with no performance edge for newer tires every night, (12 + shows.) This package works great with the large wing, its not enough tire to lock the car down. Its just like the IMCA modifieds program - no tire for high HP motors to use.

It becomes a driver deal not a wing down deal.

I say Hoosier deal because here in Ohio it's all there is. The RR must be Hoosier Spec tires. All-stars run it. I think the WoO even runs Hoosier Specs only. So all the locals run that here in Ohio.

How could you say that unhooking the cars won't matter? Ya HP will win ya quick times but if it's unhooked and you have trouble driving the thing, a little less horsepower won't hurt ya as bad as it does now and might even help if you're driving all the way around instead of burning the tires off especially in racing situation.

The best way for that is to have less surface area on the wing or THE BEST WAY IMO is to Narrow the tires. All of this I believe would bring motor costs down some. Motors are the main expenses. So that's what I think. Wings would probably stay the same yes. Competition on tires should bring expenses down a bit also unless the whole industry tries to raise prices or whatever. It might not make things affordable but Sprint Car racing has never exactly been affordable the past 20/30 years.
