imca type rules seem to work well for economy racing and i think would fit it well at cedar lake. nobody says you have to pay $300 to win (but keep in mind bigger payouts make guys spend more to win more). you wouldn't even have to sanction with imca but keep the rules similar as far as engines, tires and maybe even a gear rule to limit rpm..

I agree that IMCA is the ultimate economy class, the gear rule seems to save a lot of engines which keeps the car count up

OK,,, first let me give some of you people my background that may not be familiar with it,,,

Brian Madsen

Blooming Prairie, MN

Previous Hobby Stock, Limited Late Model, Sprint Car driver (yes,,, I SUCKED!!!! LOL)

Owner-Promoter with my brother MIke of Chateau Speedway, Lansing, MN, Promoter of Fair Shows for Steele Count Free fair (yes,, I was the promoter of the 410 show when Lasoski hit the bulldozer), Promoter of Steele County Speedway in Owatonna in 2006 and 2007.

Sprint Car Owner with drivers Chuck Schumacher, Dean Brown and Johnny Parsons III,,

Past Acting President of MSS and responsible for getting it into speedways in Iowa and Southwestern Wisconsin...

I am definitely in support of ANY ones attempts at getting more sprint car shows ANYWHERE in Minnesota, or Twin Cities,,, After sanctioning races with both IMCA, ASCS and promoting non-sanctioned 360 shows, my own personal opinion that if someone is going to run an affordable 360 deal it should model itself after what the IMCA is doing,,,, If you look at the Jackpot Junction Series payoff it is not all bad,,, $600.00 to win and $150.00 to start the main,,,, VERY affordable for any race track to host,,, Sanction fees normally ran about $200.00 per show and that included officials. I don't agree personally with the head claim rule but really like the tire rule,,, I,.like Greg Gunderson posted, have gotten really tired of the tire expense, We have ALWAYS been a very low budget sprint car team and for us to buy one new tire per show, (Right rear one night, new left rear following night), got to be very expensive but a must do for us to be able to run a respectable 3rd- 10th place car. ASCS is probably what we should all aspire to be in a perfect world,,, the problem with ASCS though is the sanctioning fees,,, the purse is basically what we had all become accustomed to for racing for with a 360,,, but if you add their sanction fee on top,, $1,200.00 plus the purse then it becomes an income losing event for the promoters.....

And just to set the record straight,,, I have always gotten along with Chuck,,, and always, well more than likely, will get along with him,,, we may not always agree on a point, but do have local sprint car racings best interests at heart. One thing though Chuck, you did post earlier that we had cancelled an ASCS show in favour of an "open" 360" show,,,, We did try to get an ASCS date for that time but because of their rules for "National" events, (the Brainerd show) they could not sanction a regional event two weeks before or after the "national" event in the area,,,,, that is why it was a NON-sanctioned show...

Hope to see everyone at the Jackson fall shows,,,

Brian Madsen

there is a guy who has what looks to be a nice imca sprint motor for sale on here for a price that is less than what some guys have in b mod or street stock engines! i'd say thats about as economy as you can get for a sprint car.

Chuck I have yet to hear what exactly the motor rules might possibly be and what the payoff might possibly be. So untill We hear that all the debating is for nothing. I had heard at CLS during the IRA show that they are thinking of a 7-800.00 to win deal. If that is the case and that is all that CLS can afford to pay fine. The problem I have is trying to design a class of sprint cars that justifies the small purse. You cant control the spending and never will be able to. All raceteams spend the same amount every year......ALL THAT THEY HAVE!!!! Some teams have 15 grand to spend and some have 150 grand to spend. One thing is for sure we spend all we have and sometimes even a little more than what we have. I dont know everything but I do know that u will never control the spending and everytime someone tries this it is not about controling the cost of the races cars but rather the size of the purse. Good luck to all involved in this project and i will support it all I can.

Because I am such a nice guy, and really think this class is a good idea, I will agree to drive one for someone. I know, I know, I am making a huge sacrifice. But, in the best intrest of the sport, I will do it. No need to thank me. wink

Wish I had my crap together so I could build one. Good Luck!!!!

Kent, I was going to pass out some tenative rules at Cedar Lake over the past weekend, but no one showed up!!!!!!!!!! I didn't either. But I might be going to Huset's next Saturday, so I will bring some with me. And we can talk in person on this topic.

If anyone would like to see what is planned, e-mail me your address and I will either e-mail or U.S. Mail them to you. Let me know who you are and what car you are with, where you live and what tracks you normally run. I'm not going to be sending these out unless your with a car.

They haven't even had their first meeting yet and Chuck is already catching h*ll because he doesn't think it's necessary to mail out a list of tentative rules? Given time I'm sure they'll have a web page and put the rules up for public consumption but right now it's on a need to know basis.

I'm not a very smart guy but even I can figure that out.

Come to the meeting in October with your questions and concerns.

I have decided that so I don't have to babysit my e-mails, I am going to ask Stan to put the rules on his page somewhere, I haven't asked him, but I know he will do it. I won't be sending them to Satn until later today, so check back here later tonight and maybe Stan will have them on there.

And it doesn't matter to me how much shit I get, it's not my decision on this, I am just Ron's little helper.

I'm so happy that there are people talking sprint car and western wisconsin in the same sentence. Just curious as to the decision to go 360 instead of 305?

Let's say everyone goes ASCS rules. Who the heck is going to police them? pitnotes, did you know that the only people that have access to the tools to inspect the cylinder heads are ASCS officials. So what good does it do to have that rule other than to sell more heads for Brodix? From my point of view, I would vote for hard-ass tires, and a 1 3/4" - 2" restrictor. Run any head with a stock valve angle and as long as you have the restrictors, you are good to go. There are a lot of ASCS heads around who should be running 2.100" restrictors right now because of illegal porting.

Apprentice. Just so you know and maybe the other tracks should adapt this for testing their ASCS rules but I have seen and been teched by the ASCS tool and it is nothing more than a 1" wide piece of Aluminum bent slightly to follow the injection to the intake port. I too agree that more tracks that supposidly run ASCS rules should enforce the head especially with the ease of making a tool to tech the motors.

Frank Larsen - Plan on having my first sprint car ready for the '09 season to go racing! Milaca, Minnesota Yes - supporting 100%! Smile Without knowing all the details, I'm all for a series that will run a sprint car that is "more economical" to build as well as at track(s) closer to home.

The "spoon" is not an all encompassing (nor was it ever intended to be) tech tool for the ASCS heads. If this tool indicates something "unusual", further testing is necessary. Don't forget about port CCs, valve angles, etc. BTW, the tool is not really 1" wide but is some small fraction less than 1".

I think its funny all the doom and gloom about the series not being ASCS and it will take car count, people won't travel. We have ASCS cars in MN. How come nobody is promoting ASCS races? How come they aren't racing at Rice Lake? Why not Superior? Why isn't anyone looking at building ASCS cars? Obviously, the rule package isn't working in our neck of the woods. Thanks chuck, for trying something different! Thanks for trying to build the sport. As far as giving the finger to ASCS guys, where are they? How come they aren't putting on races over here? I've promoted races for the class I was racing so I could race in different places. If there are so many ASCS cars, why haven't they built a series here yet?
