There will be qualifying at Ventura on saturday. Also the teams must run the Ventura approved 180 mufflers since it is a track rule.

I am glad the decision to qualify has been agreed on, it just does not seem the same when USAC-CRA shows pull a pill for position. Although with Kierce, and I running 360's maybe a pill draw would have been good for us. Oh Wait! We have the worst pill draw average of anyone in the country!! Look forward to this race, and hope to redeem myself after losing the Wagsdash with two laps to go last year. Come by and say hi, we will have a cold one waiting for you.

September 6 USAC/CRA Sprints, Senior Sprints, Jr. Midgets.....… 18th Annual Wagsdash 2008

This Saturday night, September 6th, Ventura Raceway will host the 18th Annual Wagsdash, known as the “low buck racers’ race,” following the regular USAC/CRA Main Event. The totally “fan-donated” purse is expected to exceed $15,000, with the winner taking home $2,500, plus a $1,000 bonus from Leatt Brace! This event features low-buck racing teams from USAC/CRA, and the field will also include this week’s VRA winner and hard charger.

The “Lafond Jar of Change,” already exceeds $600, and will go to the Wagsdash hard charger (winner excluded). It is the 11th consecutive year the race is being held at Ventura Raceway.

FLASH!!!!! Have you signed up to play in the 1st annual “Committee to Support Ventura Raceway Wagsdash Golf Tournament” this coming Friday, September 5th at the Sterling Hills Golf Club in Camarillo? This event, sponsored by the Committee to Support Ventura Raceway and Thunderhead, includes a free putting contest and a hole-in-one contest! Troy Rutherford, Celebrity Driver "Long Ball Hitter, will be on hand, as well! Run down to Thunderhead’s booth during the intermission and sign up for this fun day of golf and prizes with drivers and fans. Everyone is welcome! Dinner at the club house will follow for only $25.00 per person. The Wagsdash purse will benefit from the proceeds of the tournament, and you or your business are encouraged to sponsor a hole or a tee. We hope you’ll get on board!

As usual Wagsdash day will begin at noon with chili served by John and Maria Gardner from La Villa Restaurant. EVERYONE IS WELCOME!

Early in the afternoon, the Pit Stop Contest, won by Kevin Kierce’s crew last year, will entertain the crowd and as usual, USAC/CRA and VRA’s Sexiest Drivers will strut their stuff for Wagsdash dollars!

The annual Wagtimes auction will feature racing photos from some of the best p hotographers along with many other interesting items up for bid.

Julie Shiosaki’s annual bake sale will provide treats for the sweet tooth after the chili and dogs, and all the money raised in all the Wagtimes events goes directly into the Wagsdash purse.

You can get involved by playing golf, bidding in the auction purchasing the 2009 regular and/or “Sexy Driver” calendars, or just kicking back and eating chili, and watching some outstanding racing at the greatest little track by the sea, right here at Ventura Raceway.

Help make the 18th Annual Wagsdash the best yet! See you Saturday!

Ken Wagner comes to you throughout the night and ask If your willing to run his race,to date I've never heard of a driver declining to offer,it's always a privelage to be in a Wagsdash,I got my name on the 't' shirt 3 times...one club I'm proud to be a member of.......

Why the big hype for qualifying. As we saw last night, it wasn't worth it. It just beats up the track too much and we saw how lame the a-main was. Dry slick all the way around and not too much passing. I would much rather give up qualifying to see a great race at the end of the night.

well there johnny do you know what dirt is ? its like this you wet it it dries out you wet it again it dries out again . Hmmm weird aint it ? its called lack of track maintenance thru out the night !

seems kinda funny that victorville can keep a track tacky all night out in the desert. even in 100 degree weather . john does a great job on that place and drives too and ray does good at perris too. ventura cant dont know why? think they just thinkin bout money and could care less if they fans or drivers are happy about it .

I have seen Victorville and Perris go dry slick before too, so you saying they were being cheap those nights and not caring for the fans?

You guy's paid your moneys,so you have the right to bitch if your not satified.fair enough, but every track I've been to has missed it once or twice,Naylor's little deal is no exception.I do believe Ventura ,overall ,has one of the best performance records ,as far as giving a good track for the drivers when the main event comes around.I 've sat ,ready to be pushed of for the 'B' ,only to have Mr.Naylor hop on his grader and in 20 min or less totally rehab his track, ruining my set-up ,but giving the 'A' main a great track. If he missed sat. well thats a shame.....if you don't like the challenges of an ever changing track....consider watching pavement ....boring....

Ventura has been quite a bit dustier this year than in the past. 10 or so years ago, the clay was so good, you would never see a water truck during the night, let alone a grader. Things went down hill a bit when the track went under water during that big El Nino year, but it's got steadily worse every year, requiring more and more TLC to get a good main event track.

Two weeks ago during the Grand Slam was a great example. The track was a dried up sealed over piece of junk after the heats and B mains. Jim watered it before the dwarf car mains, BOTH dwarf car mains had a very slimy race track, but their little tires and lesser horse power allowed the water to work in, not blow and peel off like the sprint cars do to it.

The last two weeks, the last watering came before a sprint car event, and the moisture was just blown off the track, leaving it very dry and dusty in the mains (especially in turn 1). Heck at the start of the CRA main, I could barely see turns 3 and 4 from turn 1 through the dust.

It didn't help at the WAGS that the last track watering came before the nights first senior sprint heat race. Kind of of makes you think the track was purposely bad just to prove the "qualifying ruins the track" point...

If he grades and waters the drivers complain.

If he doesnt the fan complain.

who was it that said, "learn to drive on a tricky surface, Naylor cant make you look like Steve Kinser every night."
