Tickets still on sale for upcoming Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway events

By Gary Thomas

Tulare, CA – August 26, 2008…The Thunderbowl Raceway season will come to an exciting end with back-to-back weeks of racing in late October when the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series invade the 1/3 mile clay on October 18 and the always exciting Trophy Cup goes green with its first ever three-night event on October 23, 24 and 25.

The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaw Sprint Series event on October 18 will be led by two-time & defending Outlaw champ and three-time & defending Knoxville Nationals titlist Donny Schatz of Fargo, ND; Jason Meyers of Clovis, CA; Craig Dollansky of Elk River, MN; Joey Saldana of Brownsburg, IN and 20-time Outlaw champ Steve Kinser of Bloomington, IN.

The Thunderbowl Raceway event on October 18 will mark the first ’08 World of Outlaw series start for Jason Meyers at his home track, in what has been a career year for the Clovis native having won eight main events and sitting second in points as of this writing. The driver known as “Hotfoot” has competed at the Thunderbowl this year however, as he made a Golden State Challenge Series start earlier this season, where he brought home a ninth place finish after suffering a flat tire and being forced to come from the rear of the field, while running second to eventual winner Roger Crockett.

Meyers and rest of the Outlaw stars will face stiff competition from top California locals Tim Kaeding of San Jose, Tyler Walker of Los Angeles and newly crowned “King of California” Jonathan Allard of Chico. Kaeding finished third during the October WOO stop last season and will have extra motivation this time around as he now drives the locally based Roth Motorsports No. 83jr machine. Both Walker and Allard have also been quick this season at the 1/3 mile clay oval and should be expected to challenge the best in the business on October 18.

Less than a week after the World of Outlaw event it will time for the 15th annual Trophy Cup, which this year has moved to a three-night format on October 23, 24 and 25. The always unpredictable event for winged 360 sprint cars is a favorite of all fans, drivers and teams and this year is expected to be bigger and better than ever with three-nights of hard hitting action as racers compete for part of the huge purse, which has grown to $112,500 for this years running. As of now the World of Outlaws Series does not have a race scheduled on the Trophy Cup weekend, which will make it possible for various big name drivers to compete at the event as has been the case the past few seasons.

Tickets have been going fast for both events but can still be purchased by calling (559) 688-0909. All seating will be reserved for the World of Outlaws event on Saturday October 18 with grandstand seats costing $45 and bleachers $40. At the 15th annual Trophy Cup a three-day reserved seating pass is offered for just $75 and it includes admission to Friday’s Teriyaki BBQ. On Saturday of the Trophy Cup weekend a free spaghetti feed will be offered once again and drivers and owners are encouraged to attend.

The early entry deadline of August 31 for the Trophy Cup is also fast approaching so don’t wait to get your entry in, because after August 31 it will cost more money to enter. All the info you need to know for the 15th annual Trophy Cup as well as entry forms can be found at

Yeah the original schedule had Manzanita on it, but that was taken off the WOO site & Manzy site about 3 1/2 months ago so the Trophy Cup weekend has been dark on their schedule for quite a while. I don't see them putting something on that weekend since it's been blank for so long, unless they decide to make up the main event that was rained out a couple weeks ago, but last I had heard it didn't sound like they were going to make that up.
