FAAS EYES CALISTOGA “DOUBLE” AFTER KINGS VICTORY

AUGUST 25, 2008 --- Nic Faas of Huntington Beach, Calif. takes a huge USAC Western Midget point lead into this weekend’s “Louie Vermeil Classic” at Calistoga (Calif.) Speedway. The Midgets join the Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars at the 1/2-mile dirt oval located in California’s Napa Valley wine country.

Faas led the final 12 laps to win Saturday night’s 30-lap feature at Kings Speedway in Hanford, Calif. He passed Scott Pierovich on lap 19 and led the rest of the way in his Western Speed Racing machine to beat Bobby Boone, Shannon McQueen, Justin Grant and Rob Ely. Faas was also the night’s fastest qualifier.

The Saturday-Sunday Calistoga races are the first for USAC at the storied fairgrounds oval since Jim Keene and Billy Boat won Midget features and Ronnie Day won a Sprint race there in July of 1996. Boat won four USAC Midget races at Calistoga between 1993 and 1996.

Faas has two Western Midget dirt-track wins so far in 2008, while Josh Ford has three. Other 2008 dirt-track wins have gone to Darren Hagen, Brad Kuhn and Robby Josett. Josett, fourth in the current standings, won in May at Ventura Raceway.

C.J Sarna, who was third at Santa Maria in July, is still seeking his first Western Midget dirt victory although he won at Tracy, Calif on the pavement last month. He is third in the current points.
