I expect to have an expensive t-shirt spending spree at Calistoga that weekend!! I can't wait to see the traditional sprints at the big half mile!

Last year's USAC/CRA Champ Tony Jones remains questionable. Fingers crossed that the Alexander #4 "Silver Bullet" makes the show.

The Key, Calistoga then Gold Cup resemble the closest thing to a speedweek that this areas has seen in quite some time. And what a great variety of racing it should be. I know I'm looking forward to it.

And all of the tradition and history beginning with the Johnny Key and the return of the traditional sprint cars at Calistoga and then the very important and long-running Gold Cup. It is a week that open wheel fans in Northern California can be proud of.

There are quite a few changes from the original post... It should be noted that the above list clearly states on the site "Tentative" entry list. "Those written in BLUE have confirmed their intention to run." ...The BLUE was lost in translation apparently.
Brad Sweet, and Chuck Gurney Jr. will not be running due to a USAC Midget conflict. Jason Statler is doubtful as well unless he finds a Hans Device sponsor. Bud Kaeding has a USAC Silver Crown conflict. Burt Foland Jr. is not running. Tony Jones is not making the trip. Levi Jones is not running.
Since the original post - the biggest good additions are Darrell Hanestad (with help from The Bammer family), and Kevin Swindell in the Rolfe #10. ...Peter Murphy says he will try to make it Sunday. ...Also heard that the beautiful Walter T. Ross #56 will be on the grounds as part of the W.R.A. vintage showcase.
Should still be a great deal although I really wish Sweet, Bud, Statler, and Ballou were going to be racing. There are bunch of guys that i will be excited to see go non-winged at Calistoga. You have BK, TK, Damion Gardner, Jesse Hockett, Daron Clayton, Andy Forsberg, Swindell, Hanestad, Tyler Brown, Mike Spencer, Shane Golobic, Rip Williams.
Can't wait!

I am going to venture a guess that some of the Indiana drivers wont be making the trip this weekend. We have the Dick Gaines Memorial on saturday 3000 to win and a MSCS show at Haubstadt on sunday paying 3000 to win. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Let's face it, we had a hard time getting this race scheduled and made it in a little late. We are hoping that things will go well enough that USAC will make this an annual event and a national points race leading into The Oval Nationals and The Western World, that won't conflict with anyone elses dates. For now we feel that there are enough great teams to go around, so we wish you guys the best with your events this weekend and hope you'll do the same for us.

It will be a great show no doubt. And if it becomes part of USAC's western swing next year it will be the crowning achievement for all of those that have worked hard to make this year's event a reality. Even without last year's champion Tony Jones, who will be back in Indiana with his son and a scheduled back surgery, there will be plenty of racing to go around. Darron Clayton is worth the price of admission alone. Thanks again Chad.

I wish that I could make the Johnny Key. I think it was the first big open wheel race that I attended back in the early 70s at the old SJ Speedway. What a great tradition and race. Happy to see Ocean pick it up again as it is deserving and popular race. I will be driving up friday and have family plans for that evening. I am sure that Eric will be @ Calistoga, not sure which car though. They borrowed an engine last Saturday at the PAS in the white carpet coop car and he almost stole the show. Starting on the front row he ran away from the field only to hit a rut in turn one after leading several laps. He got upside down but I don't believe the car was hurt and he was ok - just mad is all. He has had a real good year so far and is on-the-gas all the time. He has a big future and myself and alot of others are fast realizing his talent. We also heard that Shuman was looking for a ride. Hope he makes it. Not sure if Lance is going or not because the Alexanders are not going to make it. Hope to meet you @ Calistoga Bruce.
